Jason Babin likely to miss 2-3 weeks after MRI reveals tear

Jason Babin will likely miss 2-3 weeks and possibly three pre-season games after an MRI revealed a partially torn muscle in his left calf. The Eagles will not rush their Pro Bowl defensive end back into action making a pre-season appearance at all very unlikely. The last pre-season game against the New York Jets August 30 is the earliest Babin could return to game action.

The first days of hitting in camp had the fists flying. DE Derek Landri and Demetress Bell were swinging fists and Michael Vick stepped in to break up the scrum. Afterwards, Vick stated that he probably should stay clear of such scrums in the future. A GOOD IDEA!

On the second day of full contact practice, DeSean Jackson and Cornerback Brandon Hughes were a-swingin’. According to Philly.com, a few passes earlier in practice, DeSean Jackson juked Hughes, making him look foolish in coverage. A couple of plays later, Jackson and Hughes came to blows. Somehow, training camp always manages to get the tempers flaring. Hughes refused to comment after the game saying “I’m not talking about that (dick.)”

The battle for the third QB between veteran Trent Edwards and rookie Nick Foles will begin to heat up heading into the first preseason game. Quarterback Coach Doug Pederson has said Edwards will be given every chance to turn some heads. To this point Edwards has had limited reps but has done well according to Pederson. Expect to see at least a quarter of play from both Edwards and Foles when the Eagles play Pittsburgh on August 9.

The Eagles signed Wide Receiver Andrew Brewer, a Northwestern product who has been playing in the United Football League. Brewer is 6’3″ and 215 pounds. The Eagles needed to make a move after Riley Cooper broke his collar bone and Ron Johnson suffered a gruesome season ending ankle injury.
