The Philadelphia Eagles released defensive end Jason Babin and placed wide receiver DeSean Jackson on injured reserve due to his fractured ribs Tuesday.
Coming off a career-best 18 sacks last season, Babin was expected to be a leader for the Eagles to spearhead the defense towards becoming a championship-caliber unit.
However, he and his team (losers of seven straight games) have fallen far from expectations this season. Through 11 contests, Babin registered 5.5 sacks, 26 total tackles, a pair of forced fumbles and one tipped pass.

When Babin, 32, signed his five-year deal with the Eagles, it marked a period where the organization began to sign or trade for standout defenders.
