Coach Chip Kelly said when he took the job that he wanted a defense that causes havoc. If the first week of free agency is any indication, Kelly’s plan is taking shape. There is buyers beware attached to this as the last Eagles shopping spree led to Andy Reid getting fired, but a new coach and philosophy needs to be given a chance. Gone are Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to name a few, and the results were disappointing. The reset button was pushed and influxes of new faces have come to Philadelphia to help the fans forget the faded, ‘Dream team.’ According to Jeff McLane of Philly.com, the Eagles have done a lot of work the past week to erase past mistakes. McLane writes: ‘But the canvas was repainted when the Eagles signed eight free agents - seven of whom are defensive players - in a span of 48 hours last week. They added four defensive backs, a pass rusher, a defensive lineman, and a backup inside linebacker. They come to a defense that will be undergoing a significant modification. The traditional 4-3 scheme - four down linemen and three linebackers - that the Eagles have run for years will no longer be. In its place will be a front that will often look like a 3-4, but the team will try not to label it. Chip Kelly wants versatility. Coordinator Bill Davis, who ran a 4-3 "under" scheme in Arizona, is expected to bring to the Eagles a hybrid defense that will give the new Eagles coach the flexibility he wants.’   var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
