For this entire season Michael Vick will only be as good as his last play. The unfortunate but undeniable reason for this is Vick’s last play every game actually could be his last play. Vick just hasn’t been able to stay on the field. Since taking the starting job from Kevin Kolb early in the 2010 season Vick has missed 13 starts with the Eagles because of injury. Last year he missed five games because of a concussion. But his susceptibility to injury just didn’t start when the 33-year-old hit the NFL tender age of 30. He played in all 16 regular-season games only once in his 10 years in the league. So although Vick won the Eagles’ starting quarterback job in training camp how long he keeps the job and continues taking snaps depends mostly on his ability to stay on the field. Realistically he shouldn’t be benched for performance because he is simply going to put up good numbers in Chip Kelly’s quarterback-friendly offense. That is why — beginning tonight in the season opener at Washington — Vick will only be as good as his last play. “Things happen but hopefully this year will be my year where I will be out there with my teammates for all 16 games and just enjoy this season and make the most of it” Vick said. Despite the continuous injuries Vick doesn’t feel snakebitten. He doesn’t feel someone has been poking him like a voodoo doll. “I never think about it” he said about his propensity for being injured. “The only time I talk about it or hear about it is when I talk to you guys (media). But it is a good reminder because it is going to help me to continue to prepare myself and do all the things that essentially can keep me on the field for all 16 games which is where I need to be.”
