There's an elephant in the room that I'd like to address. It was put there by the national media, and I'd like to push it back out the door.

That elephant, of course, is the idea that if Gabbert doesn't pan out, the Jaguars will have the opportunity to draft Matt Barkley to replace him.

That's simply not going to happen.

The Jaguars are a solid team with one huge question coming into 2012. Will Blaine Gabbert be able to make the transition to being a solid NFL quarterback? The answer in this instance is irrelevant.

As it currently stands, it appears that Matt Barkley will be drafted in the top 5 (and likely 1st overall). The Jaguars were a 5-11 team last year with deplorable quarterback play and wide receivers that couldn't catch a cold in a hospital. Whether anyone wants to admit it, the Jaguars are a better team this season.

I think the general consensus among most informed fans and members of the media is that the Jaguars really have no chance at having Matt Barkley fall into their laps. This is for those of you that are holding to the idea that Barkley is on deck if Gabbert fails to perform. It's not happening. If Gabbert doesn't pan out, the Jaguars are going to find themselves with a big problem, and help is not on the way.
