Last offseason, the Jaguars nearly pulled off a trade for Tim Tebow, who spurned his hometown team in favor of the Jets.

Looking back on it, Jacksonville's former coach says it's probably a good thing they lost out.

Appearing on NBC's "Pro Football Talk", Mike Mularkey revealed there was apprehension about the Jags acquiring Tebow, using the D word -- "distraction" -- to sum up the now-failed transaction.

"It was definitely a concern," Mularkey said, via NFL.com. "Because we were going to go with Blaine Gabbert. ... We were going to find ways to get the ball to him, but we were going to go with Gabbert.

"It would have been a distraction. If Blaine would have failed early, it would have been the call to bring Tebow in, and that's not something you want for your football team. Any kind of distraction."

Mularkey held firm in his stance, adding that Tebow's playoff win wouldn't have superseded Blaine Gabbert's role as the club's would-be franchise quarterback. Gabbert appeared in just 10 games last season, throwing for nine touchdowns and six interceptions.

It's worth noting that Jacksonville dumped Mularkey following a dreadful 2-14 season. Soon, everyone's favorite backup quarterback will join him in search of work.
