So in what seems like a month from now (it”s three weeks away), the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS National Championship Game on January 7.  Former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who currently backs up Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton, tweeted a picture celebrating the game. It was a play on the “Catholics vs. Convicts” game between Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.) in 1988.  But instead of the criminals that were the Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame will be playing a group of “yokels” drinking moonshine, or cousins, if you go by the t-shirt. Clausen has since deleted the tweet and has replaced them with two follow-ups: 1.  ”Some people have to much time on your hands! It’s a shirt people lol.” 2.  ”The shirt was sent to me! I was saying THANK YOU #calmdownpeople,” I’m a pretty good audience and a fan of all sorts of humor, but Clausen probably should have held off on having this t-shirt associated with him.  It isn’t like he’s very well-liked to begin with.  The press conference he held to announce he was attending Notre Dame was at the College Football Hall of Fame.  He flashed his multiple high school state championship rings as though they were Super Bowl rings and he never lived up to the (partially self-made) hype. Big East split complicates Notre Dame departure

Notre Dame's athletic director says the recently announced split between the Big East and seven schools that don't play major college football could complicate the Fighting Irish's exit from the conference. Notre Dame announced in September it is leaving the Big East to join the Atlantic Coast Conference, though its football program will remain independent. Big East...

Jimmy Clausen’s ‘Catholics vs. Cousins’ National Championship shirt

The trash talking has already started for the National Championship game, and I don’t think that the Alabama Crimson Tide fans will take too kindly to this latest jab the the Fighting Irish.  Hopefully the game lives up to the hype that it is getting.Catholics vs. Cousins BCS showdown RT @jimmyclausen: #GOIRISHSome people have to much time on your hands! No. 1 Notre Dame has underdog in its DNA

The rankings say Notre Dame is No. 1 going into the BCS championship against Alabama. Plenty of folks aren't buying it, starting with the oddsmakers who currently have the Crimson Tide as about a touchdown favorite for the Jan. 7 meeting in Miami between two of college football's proudest programs. For the Fighting Irish, being an underdog is no big deal. In fact, it'...

With Cam Newton’s ‘Sophomore Slump’ Over, NFL Should Be Scared For What’s To Come

We’ve known all along that Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newtown is a physical specimen. We saw him dazzle throughout his rookie season and fill up the stat sheet like few quarterbacks, let alone rookies, ever do. But for much of this season, the ex-Auburn Tiger, Heisman Trophy recipient, National Champion, and NFL Rookie of the Year, struggled mightily as his highly touted...

Zack Martin And Louis Nix To Return To Notre Dame In 2013

A big piece of the puzzle is put in place for Notre Dame in 2013, as Louis Nix and Zack Martin will both return in 2013. #NotreDame left tackle Zack Martin and nose guard Louis Nix will return to ND in 2013. — Eric Hansen (@hansenNDInsider) December 17, 2012 We have seen just how far Notre Dame has come with Brian Kelly and his emphasis on strengthening both the...

A Better Shirt For Jimmy Clausen's Twitter Account

Jimmy Clausen, former Notre Dame quarterback and co-MVP of the 2008 Hawaii Bowl , took to Twitter earlier to express his appreciation for a t-shirt that was sure to draw rage and well-crafted replies by Alabama fans with the ability to access the internet AND Twitter (more difficult than you think) in his direction.  As you can see, Yankee humor KEEPS IT FRESH OUT THERE. ...

Five Places Navy and Notre Dame Should Play

It was announced this week that the 2014 Navy versus Notre Dame contest will take place at Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland. This game at the home of the Washington Redskins will continue the pattern where on odd years the game is played in South Bend while in even years it is played elsewhere, mainly at regional NFL stadia.

History plays a part, but not in final score

Alabama and Notre Dame are knotted together by history. The national championship matchup between the legendary programs provides an excuse to look back at old game highlights. But to the players that are too young to remember, they know the outcome will have nothing to do with what's happened in the past.

Practice Report: 12/18

As Alabama began preparing for Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon, there were quite a few players sporting black non-contact jerseys. Some who we expected to see, and some who we haven't seen in awhile.

Irish win first of three in busy week

No. 22 Notre Dame moved to 10-1 on the season with a workmanlike 12-point win over in-state foe IPFW Monday night.
