Former New Orleans Saints special teams player Steve Gleason said he did not authorize the release of an audio tape in which former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams instructed his unit to target players for the San Francisco 49ers.

Sean Pamphilon, who was working on a documentary with Gleason and therefore was granted access to the pregame meeting, was responsible for the release of the profanity-lace audio.

On the tape, Williams can be heard urging Saints players to injure quarterback Alex Smith, running back Frank Gore and wideouts Michael Crabtree and Kyle Williams.

The release of the audio also happened to coincide on the same day that Saints coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis were appealing their suspensions for their roles in the bounty scandal.

Gleason, who is afflicted with Lou Gehrig's disease, released a lengthy statement in which he said Pamphilon betrayed his trust.

"The Saints trusted me and gave us unlimited access in filming, and I, in turn, trusted Sean Pamphilon," Gleason said. Sean Pamphilon and I have an agreement that all recordings ultimately belong to me and my family. Nothing can be released without my explicit approval.

"I did not authorize the public release of any recordings. ... I feel frustrated and distracted."

In a statement to the Times-Picayune of New Orleans, Pamphilon said he would not have released the tape "if this story hadn't broken and been made public."
