Extortion attempt was in-season distraction for Vikings WR Bernard Berrian

Wide receiver Bernard Berrian suffered easily his worst season as a Viking in 2010, failing to score a touchdown for the first time since 2005 on his way to 28 catches and 252 yards.

To be sure, Berrian had some off-field distractions in light of today's developments.

Berrian was the apparent victim of an extortion attempt from a couple that demanded $30,000 to return Berrian's Blackberry.

According to the report:

The complaint says Berrian left his Blackberry at an ATM in Las Vegas in October. On Jan. 4, Ron Jones and his girlfriend, Clarice Lankford, allegedly demanded $30,000, saying if Berrian didn't pay, they'd sell the device to the highest bidder.

The lawsuit says they claimed to be negotiating with media outlets.
