When two NFL teams want to practice together during training camp, they usually go to one of the team’s practice facilities for a day or two. The Falcons and Titans did something different on Monday as they practiced together at Coahulla Creek High School, located in Dalton, Ga. “It was a good day of work,” Falcons head coach Mike Smith said. “It was very productive and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. And I hope the Titans fell the same way.” The joint workout with the Titans was not like the Friday Night Lights event at Peachtree Ridge. It was more like a routine practice for the Falcons, but the only difference was they were going up against a different team which is always good for the players who have been banging each others heads for the last week and a half. “It was good for us to communicate against a different defense that features different looks,” Matt Ryan said talking about the Falcons offense going against the Titans defense. “I think that was...

Turner still eager to succeed for Atlanta

Running back Michael Turner has no doubt that he's given the Atlanta Falcons a good return on their investment. Since leaving San Diego to sign as a free agent four years ago, Turner has more than 5,000 yards rushing and 50 touchdowns. Minnesota's Adrian Peterson is the only player with better numbers. Eleven days into training camp, however, Turner still feels the sting...

McClure setting 'best example' for Falcons' O-line

The water break was over, and 35-year-old Todd McClure had his No. 62 jersey at the front of the pack of the Atlanta Falcons' offensive players returning to the field in Tuesday's practice. For a rookie like Peter Konz, it's an important lesson. Even with a heavy brace on his right knee, McClure finds a way to run instead of walk because leading is his natural role....

Atlanta Falcons 2012 Season Preview

How long can you be the sexy sleeper pick before people realize that maybe you aren’t going to ever live up to that hype an expectations? Are we getting close to that with the Atlanta Falcons I guess is my real question? While they continually show up as a solid team in the league and have made the playoffs in three of Matt Ryan’s four seasons since he has come into the league...

Atlanta Falcons Ready to Win NFC South

The Atlanta Falcons are in the best position of NFC South teams to snatch the crown away from the Saints. The Saints have been hit hard this offseason and won’t be the same team in 2012. The Saints lost key offensive weapons in free agency. The defense was very poor last year and, to add on, the Saints have had multiple starting players suspended, along with a coaching change....

Falcons' Hope feels at home scrimmaging old team

Chris Johnson, the Tennessee Titans' all-everything running back hesitated at the 10-yard line following his team's joint team practice with the Atlanta Falcons in Dalton, Ga., allowing himself enough time to share a few words with one of his mentors, Chris Hope. Hope, Johnson's former teammate and now a safety for the Falcons, shared in the unusual experience of conversing...

Falcons Links for August 6th 2012

Turner Not Ready for Drastic Cut in Carries Falcons running back Michael Turner is fine with his carries being mildly reduced in 2012. But if there is a drastic cut from his average of 20.1 carries a game over the last four seasons to say, 10 carries a game, he’ll have a major objection with the new offense that’s being installed in training camp. How many carries Turner...

Falcons' Smith to start 'real evaluation process'

Mike Smith isn't thinking about the opponent as his Falcons enter their preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. There has been no game-planning in practice this week for Thursday night's matchup against the Ravens. Instead, Smith says he wants to use his first look at his players in a game to help him build his depth chart. Smith says the preseason opener is when...

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. With the Falcons' two starting cornerbacks banged up and each sitting out at times in practice this week, head coach Mike Smith said on Tuesday that he had not made a determination yet as to whether they, along with a few others, would play in the team's first preseason game on Thursday at the Georgia Dome against Baltimore. The Falcons did not hold...
