ATLANTA - DECEMBER 27: Lawrence Sidbury #90 of the Atlanta Falcons scores a touchdown against quarterback Brian Brohm #4 of the Buffalo Bills after recovering a stripped ball at Georgia Dome on December 27, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)
The Falcons are facing a lot of decisions this off-season and that starts with their 14 unrestricted free agents. We will go through them one by one and decide whether or not the Falcons should re-sign them. A lot of times it's not as easy as it looks as some decisions have more than just roster spot implications. We also have to think about the salary cap as it is expected to increase by just $200,000 this season.  The last time Sidbury made a play McNabb was still a thing.   Lawrence Sidbury, occasionally called Sid the Kid, was considered a great value pick for Atlanta at the end of the fourth after showing great athleticism at the combine. Sid ran a 4.53 40 at 266lbs, the best of any defensive lineman in 2009. Hopes were high for the raw defensive end but between four years, two defensive coordinators, and a lack of pass rushers opposite John Abraham, Sidbury struggled to get on the field.   Sid's stat line this year makes Ray Edwards look like an all-pro: 1 tackle. Sadly he struggles against the run and does not play special teams, making him a frequent healthy scratch through his career. He is often an offseason favorite, predicted to take that next step and become a great spot player.   Sid followed up his four-sack effort in 2011 by only playing 10 games during the season and zero in the playoffs. Even after Ray Edwards was allowed to pursue his boxing career, Sid failed to take advantage of the opportunity.   Basically, this is the easiest of our free agent decisions I have been able to make.     Verdict: Sidbury is a one-trick pony that has failed as anything other than a situational pass-rusher and will not be resigned. With the young talent Atlanta has in Cliff Matthews and Jonathan Massaquoi, I would not be surprised if Sidbury is not even given an offer. Say adios to Sid the Kid, and everything that could he could have been, because he will not do anything else in Atlanta.     Free Agent Decisions: Garrett Reynolds Mike Cox Luke McCown Sam Baker Will Svitek
