Yesterday, the NFL played Santa Claus and gave out compensatory draft picks. Sixteen teams were given a total of 32 compensatory draft picks. The Falcons, along with the Baltimore Ravens, were given a league high four draft picks. The Falcons received one fourth round pick (pick #133) as compensation for Curtis Lofton and three seventh round picks (#243, #244 and #249) as compensation for Kelvin Hayden, James Sanders and Eric Weems. This increases the total number of draft picks the Falcons have from seven to eleven. Compensatory draft picks cannot be traded but getting so many could give Thomas Dimitroff some leeway to package some picks and move around in the draft. What does getting these four picks mean for the Falcons? Let's take a quick look at some of the recent picks the Falcons have made in the rounds they will be receiving these compensatory picks:   Recent Fourth Round Picks 2010- Joe Hawley (Falcons did not have a 4th round pick in 2011 or 2012) 2009- Lawrence Sidbury 2007- Stephen Nicholas 2007- Martrez Milner   Recent Seventh Round Picks 2012- Travian Robertson 2011- Andrew Jackson 2011- Cliff Matthews 2009- Vance Walker 2008- Willy Fontenot 2008- Keith Zinger 2007- Jason Snelling   As you can see these picks are far from a sure thing but the Falcons have been able to pick up some nice pieces in these rounds and hopefully Thomas Dimitroff can do the same this season.
