Matt Ryan threw three interceptions in the blowout loss. (Streeter Lecka) The Atlanta Falcons’ tumultuous season continues as they were routed 34-10 by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Falcons have now lost four out of their last five games and have yet to record a victory on the road. After throwing just three interceptions in the first six games, Ryan has been picked off seven times over the past two. He tossed three against the Panthers, including a pick six that put the game away in the fourth quarter. Barring a miracle, playoff hopes for the Falcons (2-6) have been dashed. Heading in a completely different direction are the Panthers (5-3), who have won four straight and sit only one game behind the NFC South-leading New Orleans Saints. Cam Newton was able to overcome a rocky start in a first half that saw him throw two picks – one each to rookies Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant – to lead his Panthers to the blowout win in the second half. Even with Newton’s two turnovers in the first half, the Panthers still led 14-10 heading into halftime. The Panthers struck first with a drive that ended with a four-yard touchdown run by Mike Tolbert. Carolina was given great field position after Ryan was intercepted by Luke Kuechly. The Falcons scored their only touchdown of the game when Ryan hooked up with Tony Gonzalez for a 17-yard touchdown with 1:55 left in the second quarter. Atlanta wouldn’t score again. Steven Jackson had a better game than his return from injury against the Arizona Cardinals. He rushed 13 times for 57 yards and caught three passes for 19 yards. After posting back-to-back 100-yard receiving games, Harry Douglas caught just three balls for 82 yards. Gonzalez led the team with six receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. In the loss was a bright spot: undrafted free agent linebacker Paul Worrilow posted a game-high 19 tackles. Curtis Lofton posted the same amount versus the New England Patriots in 2009, which is a team-high since 1994. Sunday’s game could be just as bad as the Falcons host the surging Seattle Seahawks in the Georgia Dome. 18 total views, 18 views today

Atlanta Falcons news: Looking forward to the NFL Draft

The Atlanta Falcons have had a disastrous 2013 season, and the situation only got worse on Sunday, as the team lost 34-10 to the Carolina Panthers to drop their record to 2-6 on the season. The 2013 season has not gone the way Matt Ryan and the Falcons had hoped (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images) A run to the playoffs looks nearly impossible at this point (only the 1970 Cincinnati...

Ryan resolute on ending recent rash of forced throws

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. On Wednesday, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan admitted to forcing throws to receivers. Ryan tossed three interceptions in the Falcons' blowout loss to Carolina last Sunday on top of four picks the previous week against Arizona. Upon reflection, Ryan says it's time to "clean up my decision-making a little bit." Certainly, the absence...

Ryan showed signs of forcing passes as he threw three interceptions in the Falcons' 34-10 loss at Carolina on Sunday. He threw four interceptions...

Atlanta Falcons mascot apologizes for insensitive tweet about suicide

The Atlanta Falcons mascot “Freddie Falcon” sent out a very insensitive tweet when he joked about killing himself because of the Falcons 2-6 record. Earlier in the day, Freddie Falcon walked in the 10th annual Out of The Darkness Walk, put on by the Atlanta chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Following the Falcons’ loss to the Carolina Panthers, the...

Falcons’ Roddy White still limited in practice

Mike Smith said Roddy was limited — vaughn...

Atlanta Falcons mascot, Freddie Falcon, joked about killing himself on Twitter

Because it’s 2013 and everyone and their mother is using social media, the Atlanta Falcons’ official mascot, Freddie Falcon, has his own Twitter account. On Sunday afternoon, Freddie didn’t use his best judgement when it came time to tweet about a suicide prevention walk that he participated in earlier in the day. What direction do the Atlanta Falcons go now?

The Atlanta Falcons were supposed to be a Super Bowl contender once again in 2013. Expectations were at an all-time high following a disappointing exit from the postseason a season ago. With expectations so high, what’s happened to the Atlanta Falcons? The Falcons’ problems appear to be completely systemic issues. The defense is poor, which doesn’t bode well for head coach...

Roddy White misses third straight game for Falcons

Falcons receiver Roddy White was inactive for the third consecutive game on Sunday in Carolina with hamstring and ankle injuries. White is thought to have made some progress earlier in the week, but clearly not enough for the Falcons to have felt comfortable giving him the green light this week. White was able to practice on Friday, but only saw limited reps. Today’s Falcons inactives...

Falcons Mascot Makes Suicide Joke On Twitter Immediately After Participating In Suicide Prevention Walk

Falcons' Weatherspoon practices

A familiar face returned to the practice field for the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon suited up for his first appearance since a foot injury in Week 2 sent him to the inactive list. Weatherspoon is still not eligible to play in this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks, though he said he feels good enough to take the field. If all goes well...

Freddie Falcon: Contrite And Possibly Suicidal Mascot

(via Getty Image)Freddie Falcon, the mascot for – you guessed it – the Atlanta Falcons, made an appearance at a charity walk organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention early on Sunday morning. Hours later, the Falcons were creamed by the Panthers, the latest setback in a depressing season, and the mascot’s Twitter account fired off this tweet:@FreddieFalcon...

Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers: Five Things We Learned

The disappointing Atlanta Falcons were hoping a trip to Charlotte would spark some sort of a turnaround in an otherwise forgettable season.  By laying a 34-10 thumping on their NFC South rivals, the surprising Carolina Panthers made certain that the outcome would be anything but memorable for Atlanta. The Panthers complete domination of a team they have looked up to in the standings...

Falcons-Panthers: Recap With The Enemy

It was the second straight game, where Atlanta was overwhelmed offensively and was soundly defeated once again. The difference in this game was that the offensive line actually played particularly well by only allowing one sack. They actually gave Matt Ryan time in the pocket to go through his reads. In the end, they lack playmakers to move the ball efficiently and Ryan made some...

Links of the Day 11/6/13

IT SNOWED IN MINNESOTA! GET THE TORCHES!!! Purdue is going to use another one-off helmet for their game against Iowa this weekend. What the heck, it worked well last week. The NFC North, man. Inappropriate tweet from the Atlanta Falcons mascot. SCOREBOARD NHL Minnesota 5, Calgary 1 – It’s going to be too bad when everyone gets injured, because this team is pretty great right now.

NFL Week 10 Top 3 Picks

Season To Date: 18 – 9   Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints- The Saints will be in a foul mood after losing to the Jets last week.  This is the type of game (quality opponent and on the road) where the Cowboys inability to run the ball really hurts them.  Rob Ryan will have extra motivation to limit the one-dimensional Dallas offense.  Saints 38 – Cowboys 23....
