The Atlanta Falcons informed RT Tyson Clabo that he’ll be released this morning. “We’re really disappointed,” said Clabo after receiving a call at 7:30 this morning, per D. Orlando Ledbetter. “This was unexpected.“ This was clearly move by the Falcons to free up some additional cap space. As of Wednesday, Atlanta was $2.4 million under the salary cap and still have plans to lockup quarterback Matt Ryan at some point this offseason. Clabo, 31, signed a five-year deal worth $25 million that included $11.5 million in guaranteed back in 2011. He was set to make $4.5 million in each of the next three seasons. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 14 best offensive tackle in the league last year, but the current market for right tackles already includes Andre Smith and Eric Winston, so it’s not as though he can expect to find a ton interest right away. We’ll have to see if the Falcons intend to go with Lamar Holmes at right tackle or possibly draft someone in the next few weeks.

Tony Gonzalez to retire after 2013

Last year was supposed to be Tony Gonzalez's swan song, but the Falcons were able to lure him back to football for one more run at a championship. That "one more run" will be his last run. At least, that's what Gonzalez told PFT after he was 95% sure that last year was his final run in the NFL. Gonzalez gives the Falcons an additional offensive weapon whenever...

Exonerated LB Banks signs with Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) -- Brian Banks said signing with the Atlanta Falcons is his second-biggest accomplishment. The biggest was Banks' exoneration of rape charges one year ago. The woman recanted her claim and offered to help...

Falcons sign LB Brian Banks

In a feel-good story, this morning the Atlanta Falcons signed LB Brian Banks. Many may wonder if this is publicity stunt or if it’s the real deal – I am leaning towards the real deal. Banks is a stud backer, largely recruited and had all the tools to be a great Linebacker before being sent to prison after being accused of raping a female in High School. Banks spent five years...
