The Chargers acquired 28 year old, six-year veteran RB Danny Woodhead from the New England Patriots in the offseason. The undersized (5' 8", 200 lbs) and underrated pass-catching RB will be a valuable addition to a team in which No. 1 RB Ryan Mathews has shown zero capacity to remain healthy through an entire season, having missed ten games in his first three seasons and being severely limited in many others. Woodhead, on the other hand, touched the ball 121 times in 2012 and accounted for 80 rushes for 312 yards, 41 receptions for 458 yards, and seven touchdowns.Despite Woodhead being the third-down back for the Chargers, his capacity in the pass game is immense, thus increasing his potential in fantasy leagues. Currently, Woodhead is going, on average, in the 12th-13th rounds. However, his abilities and the fact that the Chargers throw a lot of screen passes make Woodhead a strong fantasy sleeper this year, particularly in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues, with many asserting that he could secure himself a top-25 fantasy finish for 2013.Adding to Woodhead's value are the numerous WR injuries the Chargers have sustained: Danario Alexander is out for the season with a torn ACL, Eddie Royal suffered a bruised lung and concussion in week two of the preseason, and Malcom Floyd sustained a sprained knee during a one-on-one drill practice. Woodhead's ability as a receiver in the wake of these injuries adds to his value. Further, the Chargers have a tendency to play from behind and there is little doubt that this will continue to be the case, thus resulting in significantly more passing attempts by QB Philip Rivers which will increase Woodhead's potential productivity.
