In college, Mark Ingram won the Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately for Ingram and New Orleans, that success has not carried over to the NFL level. In two years with New Orleans, Ingram has only gained 1,076 yards and scored 10 TDs. I don't think that things are going to change anytime soon for Ingram or New Orleans.New Orleans still has that one guy playing quarterback -- Drew Brees! In 2012, Brees led the NFL in passing yards (5,177) and passing touchdowns (43).This is great for New Orleans but not so great for Ingram. A team with an elite QB such as Drew Brees does not find the need to run the ball often. In 2012, Ingram carried the ball only 156 times. This total is only 29 more than QB Cam Newton's 127 carries. Even if Ingram begins to play better, it is unlikely that he will ever rack up fantasy points because New Orleans is going to be pass-happy as long as Drew Brees is playing there. In 2013, expect Ingram to split carries with Pierre Thomas and at times, Darren Sproles. Sproles is at his best on passing downs, which limits Ingram's time on the field. Ingram is currently 2nd at the running back position on New Orleans' unofficial depth chart (neworleanssaints.com). If you're looking for a second-string RB on your fantasy team, try Denver's Ronnie Hillman or Indy's Vick Ballard.Don't expect much from Mark Ingram in 2013. I think that he is a decent player, but he is not someone you want on your fantasy team. Having a RB from New Orleans on your fantasy team is similar to having a QB from Oakland on your fantasy team (a bad idea). Even though New Orleans says that Ingram is ready for a larger amount of carries, I find it hard to believe that he is going to get enough carries to contribute to a fantasy team.
