Through eight full weeks of the 2013 NFL season, football fans have already seen more than their fair share of surprises. The Jacksonville Jaguars are (gasp!) 0-8. The Cleveland Browns have already started three different quarterbacks – making that 20 different starting signal-callers for the franchise since its 1999 reincarnation. And Peyton Manning has had no trouble molding his Denver Broncos offense – which has added Wes Welker and Julius Thomas into the mix this season to assist what was already one of the league’s best receiving tandems in Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker – into one of the most formidable units in NFL history. Wait…none of these are really all that surprising you say? Well, the Kansas City Chiefs – not-so-proud owners of the NFL’s worst record just a season ago – are 8-0. Two pre-season Super Bowl favorites in the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans have quickly tumbled their way out of the NFL’s elite and into playoff race obscurity. And Terrelle Pryor, of all people, is quietly having a fine season as the quarterback of the…Oakland Raiders? Ah, that’s better. These surprising storylines – along with more than a few others – have made for quite an interesting season of fantasy football, as well. To accommodate this, I have created two fictional starting lineups for your reading pleasure – or displeasure, depending on whether or not you’re forced to start any of the guys that make an appearance on our first list like I am. Mid-season All-Disappointment Team QB: Tom Brady (Pre-season ESPN.com standard scoring position ranking: 7/Actual mid-season standard scoring position ranking: 19) RB: C.J. Spiller (7/38) RB: Trent Richardson (8/33) WR: Roddy White (7/108) WR: Marques Colston (14/64) TE: Tony Gonzalez (3/9) FLEX: David Wilson (17/71) K: Blair Walsh (2/26) DEF: Houston Texans (3/24) Mid-season All-Surprise Team Knowshon Moreno is thriving as the lead back in a loaded Broncos offense. (Photo credit: Chris Humphreys/USA Today) QB: Philip Rivers (23/7) RB: Knowshon Moreno (43/2) RB: Fred Jackson (42/9) WR: Marvin Jones (106/12) WR: Terrance Williams (86/18) TE: Julius Thomas (20/4) FLEX: Andre Ellington (86/16) K: Nick Folk (28/4) DEF: Kansas City Chiefs (25/1)
