Anquan Boldin, WR, San Francisco 49ers
School: Florida State
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Anquan Boldin hasn’t had a 1000 yard season since his days with the Arizona Cardinals, but he is not an undervalued player. The strong, physical receiver proved his worth yet again last year by catching 65 balls for 921 yards and four touchdowns. Boldin said after the season ended, that he would rather retire than play for anyone except for the Ravens.
He changed his tune a couple short weeks later. He now gets to put on the uniform of the team they beat in the Super Bowl this year, the San Francisco 49ers.
So, how effective will he be? Despite it being hard to watch the seemingly painfully slow Boldin, he is a very physical receiver with good ball skills, while being a major threat outside the hash marks. The problem is that the 49ers already have a wide receiver with a fairly similar skill set, which leaves them stranded without a true threat in the vertical passing game. However, with Kaepernick’s sweet feet as well as the 49ers stout offensive line, Boldin is going to have plenty of opportunities to get open and catch the ball.
Even though Boldin isn’t a player that is going to possess a large amount of upside, he still remains a low-end WR3/high-end WR4 option going forward. He never has been one to rack up the touchdowns, but he should get plenty of chances this year thanks to his physical nature and deceptive athleticism. One of these years, he is going to fall off a cliff production-wise, but I’ve been wrong about it for the last couple years, so I’m going to assume he hasn’t reached the tipping point just yet.
