On the brink of Week 5 in the 2013 fantasy football season, the waiver wire continues to change. With disparity among players that perform well and those that don’t, it can be tough to gauge new adds for each week. In addition, other considerations such as overall production, opposing matchups and health take part in the equation. As a result, players that are legitimate additions to your roster are far and few between. In turn, we must sift through the market and see who stands out. The following players should provide some assistance moving forward.   LeGarrette Blount: RB, Patriots (at Cincinnati Bengals) LeGarrette Blount’s contributions to New England’s offense have gradually increased this season. After not receiving many rushes in Week 1 and Week 2, Blount was fed 16 times in a dominant win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There, he rushed for 65 yards and averaged 4.6 per attempt. On Sunday night in Week 4, though, Blount displayed his value to the Patriots. Despite getting just nine carries, he amassed 64 yards and scored from 47 yards out. The guy still brings the speed to outrun defenders at the second level, not to mention to power to slam the ball inside. Blount is a decent backup for bye weeks and a nice flex option when needed.   Jerome Simpson: WR, Vikings (bye week) In Week 1 Jerome Simpson caught seven passes for 140 yards against the Detroit Lions. Then, his production instantly dropped as Minnesota struggled to find a consistent passing game to complement running back Adrian Peterson. Well, Simpson took flight again in Week 4 as he accounted for 124 yards on seven catches. This time, however, his quarterback was Matt Cassel, the experienced veteran who does bring a strong arm and decent mobility. Provided Cassel remains at the helm in the Twin Cities, Simpson’s fantasy production should be that of a solid No. 3 wide receiver or the flex player.   Carolina Panthers Defense (at Arizona Cardinals) Currently, the Panthers rank 12th in pass defense and seventh against the run. Carolina has also allowed just 36 points in three games, and blanked the New York Giants in Week 3. The Cats even limited the Seattle Seahawks to a mere 12 points in Week 1 despite losing. Fielding an impressive front seven led by Luke Kuechly, Carolina has recorded 10 sacks and has given up just 3.7 yards per rush. That said, the team does need to get better in coverage, as it allows a 66.7 completion percentage. Nevertheless, playmakers in Robert Lester, Josh Norman and Captain Munnerlyn are capable of locking high-powered attacks down. Although they’re not a weekly starter, the Panthers are appealing as a backup defense, as well as starting in leagues that start two defenses.   Follow John on Twitter @Rozum27 The post Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Key players to add for Week 5 appeared first on Midwest Sports Fans.
