Robert Griffin III is on record as saying his goal is to play in Week 1's tilt against the Eagles.

That goal is still well within reach, says RG2.

The father of the Redskins' franchise quarterback told USA Today that his son is doing "extremely well" in his recovery from offseason knee reconstruction surgery.

"Robert is doing extremely well as far as the timetable,'' Robert Griffin II said. "He's been doing a lot over time, he never stops. He was throwing some prior to the draft. Everything seems to be on cue. Everybody in the organization is targeting that season opener.''

RG2 drew a comparison to the torn ACL RG3 suffered at Baylor four years ago, stating he's ahead of schedule this time around.

"He might be a little ahead of himself in terms of doing what he did then compared to now,'' RGII said. "He's smarter, stronger, wiser.''

Griffin III has continually demonstrated positive signs, doing jumping jacks at last month's team draft party and recently tweeting a throwing regimen that includes "a couple roll out throws."

Major doubt that once loomed over RG3's availability for the start of the regular season has now subsided. Barring any setbacks, we can likely expect to see the 23-year-old under center on Opening Day.
