The Dallas Cowboys made an excellent personnel move signing running back Sammy Morris on Tuesday. After DeMarco Murray was lost for the season with a broken ankle, Dallas was left with Felix Jones as the team’s only healthy running back. During the Cowboys’ 31-15 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, Jones and Morris showed they are more than capable of handling Dallas’ rushing workload. The Cowboys were supposed to run all over the Buccaneers. Even without Murray, Dallas had plenty of firepower to combat Tampa Bay’s porous rush defense, which ranks near the bottom of the barrel among NFL teams. Jones did his part as the workhorse, rushing for 100 yards for a second straight game. The once forgotten Cowboys running back carried the ball 22 times for 108 yards to be exact, doing exactly what Dallas needed him to in this must-win contest. That was the easy part, or easier part. Dallas was considered to be in big trouble after Murray had season-ending ankle surgery on Monday. ...

‘Fresh’ Morris turned in solid outing in his Cowboys debut

TAMPA, Fla. – Sammy Morris didn’t have much time to prepare for his debut with the Dallas Cowboys after signing with the team last week. “I was trying to get as many mental reps as I could during the week,” Morris told DallasCowboys.com. “Just trying to study while you’re at the hotel – you’re trying to be prepared for whatever is thrown in...

Dallas Cowboys Struck Gold With Laurent Robinson, Sammy Morris

The Dallas Cowboys have arguably the two most valuable free agent acquisitions this season in receiver Laurent Robinson and running back Sammy Morris. The Cowboys signed both players when stars went down with injuries as fill-ins, but Dallas couldn’t have imagined the impact Robinson and Morris have had on the team. Robinson was signed early in the season after Cowboys receiver...

Five Boys to Watch During the Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Bucs Game

Felix Jones:  After a devastating injury to DeMarco Murray, Jones is back as the Cowboys starting tail back and last week he had a decent performance filling in for Murray. However can that continue and can he be a number one back which he failed to do early in the season? I sure hope so because the Cowboys playoff hopes might depend on it. The big difference between Murray and...

Jones fills Murray’s shoes nicely

TAMPA, Fla. – Maybe the Cowboys won’t miss DeMarco Murray so much after all. The rookie running back suffered a season-ending fractured right ankle last week against Giants, but Felix Jones has filled in nicely ever since. Jones rushed for 108 yards in Saturday night’s 31-15 win over Tampa Bay, tying a career-high with 22 carries. It’s the first time in Jones...

More Is Better

In signing a veteran like Sammy Morris to address their backfield depth issues following the loss of DeMarco Murray, the idea was twofold.

Opportunity knocks again for Cowboys-Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their season spiral out of control months ago, which makes them all the more dangerous for a Dallas Cowboys team starting to lose the grip on theirs. The young and talented Bucs got off to a 3-1 start but now are 4-9 and tangled in a seven-game losing streak. Yet they have an opportunity to win their "bowl game," if you will, by knocking off...

Cowboys vs. Buccaneers: 5 Questions

Riding a two-game losing streak due to a couple of last second special teams miscues, the Cowboys head to Tampa Bay to take on the Bucs this weekend in a Saturday evening match-up. A loss doesn’t mean their postseason hopes are over, but if the Cowboys hope to control their own playoff fate, they must find a way to end this losing skid and leave Tampa Bay with a victory in...

Dallas Cowboys: A Tale of Two Teams in Tampa Bay

So Dallas beat a team they should have beaten and while I don’t want to diminish the win, I can’t get too excited about it either. What I did get excited about was the Giants losing today. That put Dallas back into first place. Dallas will finish with two divisional games. Win and they are in, lose and they are out. While all of that is what we live for we need to take a...

The Dallas Cowboys defeat the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-15

(Photo by J. Meric) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had their losing streak extended to eight games when the Dallas Cowboys defeated them at home on Saturday night, 31-15. The Cowboys came into the game riding a two game losing streak of their own. But as the win helped Dallas’ playoff chances, it most likely hurt the chances that Buc’s Head Coach Raheem Morris will return for...

Cowboys Try to Rebound

The Cowboys suffered what was probably their most devastating lose of the season last week, surrendering the lead in the division to the New York Giants. This week they will get a slightly easier match up with a Tampa Bay team that has taken a step back this season. This is a win that the team will need if they are going to have any chance of staying in contention to for the division...
