Coming into Sunday's matchup between the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco at Candlestick Park, the Panthers were the team with the bigger questions and doubts. They had a four-game winning streak, but the teams they had beaten had a total of five wins combined between them. How would they fare against better competition?  It was a fair question, one that was not asked of the 49ers, who were also coming into the game on a roll, winning five straight games. Although their strength of schedule was not that much more difficult at all, they are a proven contender in the NFC, coming off last season's Super Bowl appearance. I actually happened to be in San Francisco this past weekend and bought tickets to the game, as it would be my last chance to visit historic Candlestick Park. As the game approached, the 49ers faithful at the tailgates were confident to the point of overlooking the Panthers.  They were lining up to get into the stadium, even people showing up to the parking l...

San Francisco continues to miss Alex Smith

This was hardly the highly touted showdown between 2011 No. 1 overall pick Newton and Kaepernick, the sixth quarterback drafted that year, in the second round. They roomed together during the scouting combine. Kaepernick went 11 for 22 for 91 yards with an interception and was sacked six times for a 42.0 passer rating. Newton […]

Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers Lose Behind Worst Passing Effort of 2013

The San Francisco 49ers fell 10-9 at home Sunday to the statistical powerhouse Carolina Panthers behind the most ineffective passing performance in all of 2013. Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers produced just 1.64 Real Passing YPA in the loss, easily the worst of the entire season.

Colin Kaepernick resembles an artist when he runs in ‘The Paris of the West’

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick struggled mightily in Sunday’s 10-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers at Candlestick Park. Constantly hurried by Carolina’s standout front seven, the 26-year-old Kaepernick finished 11-of-22 for 91 yards and one interception. Kaepernick’s underperformed all season and now failed to top 200 yards passing in seven of nine games. Overall...

Colin Kaepernick once again favorites hateful tweets for motivation after loss

After his dominant performance against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, most of us thought San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was in for a monster year. Since that game, the former Nevada star has thrown six touchdowns and six interceptions. His quarterback rating in a 10-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday […]

Colin Kaepernick Using Twitter Yet Again as Motivation After Continued Struggles for 49ers (Photo)

Colin Kaepernick is going back to the Twitter well once more. After a couple rough performances back in September, Kaepernick began favoriting negative tweets from fans as motivation. Well, after taking about two months off from playing “favorites,” Kaepernick picked up the habit again this week. Kaepernick, who threw for just 91 yards and an interception in a 10-9 loss to the...

Panthers' 5th straight win, beat 49ers 10-9

Carolina's swarming, opportunistic defense stopped Colin Kaepernick in his tracks. Drayton Florence intercepted a pass by Kaepernick in the final minute to seal a 10-9 victory Sunday to snap the San Francisco 49ers' five-game winning streak and give the Panthers their fifth straight win. Graham Gano kicked a 53-yard field goal with 10:05 remaining that held up as the Panthers...

FOX Sports NFL Game of the Week Review: Panthers at 49ers

Are the San Francisco 49ers who we thought they were? Is Colin Kaepernick who we thought he was? Well, after Sunday's 10-9 loss against the Carolina Panthers, I feel obligated to have to start leaning towards "no" for both of those questions. As I talked about in my preview for this game, this FOX Sports NFL Game of the Week was a test for both squads. In the end,...

Panthers stifle Kapernick, 49ers to win fifth straight

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Carolina Panthers can now say they have that signature win everybody has been waiting to see: on the road, against the reigning NFC champions, in November. While facing one of the NFL's brightest young quarterbacks, to boot. Carolina's swarming, opportunistic defense stopped Colin Kaepernick in his tracks. Drayton Florence intercepted a pass by Kaepernick...

49ers drop to 6-3 with loss to Panthers

In all honesty I don’t know what to say about this game. The 49ers lost 10-9 at home against the Panthers.  They had the game early, but didn’t take advantage of the opportunities the defense gave them. Colin Kaepernick finished the day 11 of 21 for 91 yards, yes that is not a typo. The offense could not do anything. Kap was pressured all day long. The defense shut the Panthers...

Vernon Davis, Eric Reid feel fine 48 hours post-concussions

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and rookie safety Eric Reid said they are feeling well 48 hours after both sustained concussions in Sunday’s 10-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers. “I’m doing fine, feeling great and just taking it one day at a time,” Davis said Tuesday, via the Contra Costa Times. “I have to wait for doctors to let me know what I can do next.”...

Harbaugh won’t play blame game after 49ers’ loss

Late in Sunday’s game against Carolina, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick escaped the pocket and took off downfield for a 16-yard gain. When a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the Panthers was tacked on, it seemed like the spark the 49ers’ bedraggled offense needed. But on the next play, 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin was called for a false start, one of numerous...

Panthers Win Defensive Battle Over 49ers 10-9

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca– Colin Kaepernick Niners quarterback was sacked 6 times and Cam Newton Carolina Panthers quarterback was sacked 4 times in a defensive duel. 49ers’ latest loss to winning team raises questions

The cupcake portion of the 49ers’ schedule is officially over. If there was any doubt, Carolina sent San Francisco an emphatic message in a 10-9 victory at Candlestick Park on Sunday that left the beat-up Niners without three key starters and raised questions about just how good the defending NFC champions are in 2013. For the third straight time dating to Week 2, Colin Kaepernick...

Confident Saints to battle foe 49ers

The New Orleans Saints are set to entertain the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Sunday (4:00 pm Eastern, FOX) in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in a much-anticipated clash of NFC heavyweights harboring aspirations of a deep playoff run. The game is a rematch of a meeting between the two teams last year in the same venue, a game in which New Orleans was shredded defensively by the dual...
