The Detroit Lions' home field is about to get an upgrade. The team will replace its current artificial playing surface at Ford Field with FieldTurf's latest product, FieldTurf Classic HD.
The new surface replaces the original FieldTurf field installed when the stadium opened in 2002. FieldTurf Classic HD is designed to be softer and more durable.
"Over the past 11 seasons, FieldTurf has provided us with a reliable and player-friendly surface to prepare and play," said Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand. "We're very excited to have FieldTurf upgrade their original surface at Ford Field and look forward to having one of the best and most durable NFL playing fields for years to come."
Detroit is one of seven NFL franchises that has a FieldTurf playing surface for home games, while 22 of the league's 32 teams have it installed at practice facilities.

NFL Pro Bowl Fail: League puts wrong Lions logo on Pro Bowl jerseys
For a League that hands out $10,500 dollar fines for wearing your socks too low in a game, you’d think they’d get their own uniform rules right…
Wrong.

The only problem was it was the logo used prior to...

Terrell Owens to Titus Young: Know your role
When it comes to wearing out your welcome with an NFL team, Terrell Owens is an expert. No one would ever confuse T.O. with a quiet player who minds his own business. It’s often been said that those who can’t do should instead teach, which is why it makes sense on some level that Owens recently had a bit of advice for Detroit Lions receiver Titus Young.
Young, who has tremendous...
In Most Devious Act Yet, Ndamukong Suh Saves The Life Of Louie Anderson
Frequently decried as a cheap-shotting menace on the field and a reckless driver off of it, Ndamukong Suh could use a bit of positive PR. Saving the life of a fellow celebrity could be just that. Does it count if that celebrity is Louie Anderson? I suppose that’s for the public to decide.
Comedian Louie Anderson narrowly averted disaster this week at a taping of “Splash” ...

Warren Sapp criticizes Ndamukong Suh… again.
Warren Sapp is continuing to be one of the harshest critics of notorious kick-thrower Ndamukong Suh of the Lions. This time, it isn’t about his growing reputation as a dirty player (which by the way, Suh still denies). Instead, he’s criticizing his leadership skills.
Sapp voiced his opinion on Suh on NFL Network on Tuesday. Although he swears that the criticism isn’t personal...
What’s Going On With The Detroit Lions?
In 2011, the Detroit Lions made the playoffs for the first time since Barry Sanders was still with the team. Fans were excited and they were a confident team. Matthew Stafford finally stayed healthy and had a great season, throwing for over 5,000 yards. Calvin Johnson continued his dominance and Ndamukong Suh was becoming a star. Coach Jim Schwartz seemed liked a great find. Then...
