It was reported this weekend that the San Francisco 49ers would be bringing QB Daunte Culpepper in for a workout this week. Instead of kicking the tires on Culpepper, the 49ers should be calling recently retired QB Marc Bulger. Talking Bulger out of retirement makes more sense than inking Culpepper to a contract.
Culpepper has not played in the NFL since 2009, playing for the Detroit Lions. Last season, he played for the Sacramento UFL franchise, tossing 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in eight games.
Culpepper appeared poised for a great career early on. In 2004 while a member of the Minnesota Vikings, he tossed 39 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions in 4700 yards. His career however, was derailed by a violent knee injury suffered in the 2005 season and he never recovered to his pre-injury form, floating around the league with stops in Oakland, Miami and finally Detroit.
It’s obvious that the 49ers are in need of quarterback help and the signal that they are bringing Culp...
