CLEVELAND - 2009: Eric Steinbach of the Cleveland Browns poses for his 2009 NFL headshot at photo day in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by NFL Photos)

The Cleveland Browns were rocked a year ago when Eric Steinbach got injured and were forced to push Jason Pinkston into action as a rookie. It is a testament to the solid play that Steinbach brought to the table for the Browns over the years. Most recently, Steinbach was attempting a comeback with the Miami Dolphins.1

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin opened up his Wednesday press conference by announcing that Steinbach has decided to retire after nine seasons in the NFL. The news likely doesn’t come as much surprise to Hard Knockswatchers since they saw the guard tell Philbin that he wasn’t playing as well as he used to during this week’s installment.

Football is a cruel sport in that respect. While some guys get storybook endings to their careers, it seems more times than not, guys are forced to retire when their physical abilities fail them. In the case of Eric Steinbach his back seems to be the final culprit. His time in Cleveland will not be forgotten by most Browns fans because of his solid play and because the Browns signed him away from the division rival Bengals.

Just be happy that the Browns have an up and coming second-year player in Jason Pinkston. Miami is facing a future with Richie Incognito and / or Artis Hicks.
