Former Colorado running back Darrell Scott at the NFL combine

INDIANAPOLIS — Back in 2008, Darrell Scott was one of the biggest names in the college football recruiting world, and he made a major splash when he chose to sign with Colorado.

Scott’s tenure in Boulder lasted only two seasons before he transferred to the University of South Florida. Now’s he’s hoping to land a job in the NFL. He said he feels like he’s more “under the radar” now than when he was going through the college recruiting process.

“Some teams are showing a lot of interest, so that’s reassuring,” Scott said.

Scott said he’s scheduled to meet with Broncos officials Friday night, and said he’d be happy to play back in Denver. The Broncos need to add depth at running back to complement Willis McGahee. Scott joked that he’d be happy to block for Tim Tebow as well.

Scott was healthy last year at South Florida, and he hopes his junior year there, where he rushed 153 times for 814 yards and five touchdowns, will help raise his draft stock.

“I didn’t want to transfer, but things happen,” Scott said Friday at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. “I just wanted to make all the doubters be quiet.”

Colorado fans might have a hard time even recognizing Scott, who has put on more than 20 pounds since he played in Boulder. Scott said Colorado coaches wanted him to play at 205 pounds, and he bulked up to as much as 239 last year at South Florida. He said he is hearing from NFL teams that they would like to him be between 220-230 pounds as a pro.
