PLAYERS: Dave Krieg
TEAMS: Detroit Lions
Former NFL offensive lineman Lomas Brown was a guest on ESPN Radio and admitted that when he was with the Detroit Lions, he missed a block on purpose so Scott Mitchell would get injured and be knocked out of the game. “We were playing Green Bay in Milwaukee,” Brown said, via ProFootballTalk.com. “We were getting beat, 24-3, at that time and he just stunk up the place. He’s throwing interceptions, just everything. So I looked at Kevin Glover, our All-Pro center and I said, ‘Glove, that is it.’ I said, ‘I’m getting him out the game.’ . . . So I got the gator arms on the guy at the last minute, he got around me, he hit Scott Mitchell, he did something to his finger . . . and he came out the game. [Lions backup quarterback] Dave Krieg came in the game.” Brown didn’t sound like he regretted the move. “As you can tell, I’m just not a big fan of Scott Mitchell. He’s just not on my Christmas list. He won’t be getting any Christmas presents from me this year,” Brown said. I don’t care how much a player doesn’t like a teammate or an opponent.  That doesn’t mean you allow him to get injured on purpose.  That’s ruthless and evil.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Megatron: Lions' playmakers need to step up

Calvin Johnson wants to see better play out of his teammates in their remaining two games after a six-game losing streak.

Megatron breaks Rice's record and more

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson broke Jerry Rice's all-time single-season receiving record of 1,848 yards set in 1995 with a 26-yard catch and run with less than four minutes remaining in the Lions' 31-18 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night. "It's a huge accomplishment to take one of those records from the great Jerry," Johnson told ESPN...

Lions RB Joique Bell Wipes Out Gunther Cunningham

Earlier I gave a shout out to Matt Ryan for giving me 37 fantasy points in my championship game last night.  Well, I also had Lions running back Joique Bell.  Bell got me 17 points, mostly all in the air.  He grabbed 9 catches for 73 yards.  Just couldn't have gone better last night for me.  For that reason I had to give the man a shout out, and it's a funny one.  Check...

Mistakes keep costing Lions

DETROIT If there's one play that symbolizes the Detroit Lions' 2012 season, it was Stefan Logan kneeling at his own 4-yard line with 1:21 left in the fourth quarter. The Lions had just tackled Atlanta running back Michael Turner in the end zone for a safety, cutting the Falcons' lead to 31-18. Although they didn't have a lot of time, the Lions might have made it...

Lions' Johnson lives up to 132 million deal

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Lions have gotten quite a return on the 132 million, eight-year investment they made in Calvin Johnson nine months ago. "He's not trying to live up to a contract," Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said Sunday. "Personal records are great, and we certainly celebrate the season Calvin that has had, but it hasn't translated to...

Mady: Lions Haven't Quit on Schwartz

There’s a notion floating around right now that Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has lost his team. These assumptions come with no merit, are not based on any tangible evidence and are an inaccurate assessment of the Lions current situation.

'Megatron' breaks Rice's record

DETROIT Sorry, Jerry Rice, you have one fewer NFL record. Detroit Lions receiver Calvin "Megatron" Johnson surpassed Rice for the most receiving yards in a season with a brilliant performance Saturday night in a 31-18 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field. Johnson broke the record on a 26-yard reception with 2:57 remaining in the game to give him 1,871 yards on the...

Lions returnman Stefan Logan will take a knee on a free kick and there's nothing Jim Schwartz can do about it

Oh boy. Free kick to Lions returnman Stefan Logan. No one near him at the 4 and...he takes a knee. Mike Tirico, becoming more and more boisterous in his old age, sums it up thusly: "Here have been... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Lions WR Calvin Johnson Breaks Jerry Rice’s Record

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson caught 11 more passes for 225 yards earlier tonight against the Atlanta Falcons, giving the Pro Bowler 1,892 yards on the season and putting him over Jerry Rice’s record for most receiving yards in a single season. Johnson broke Rice’s record with under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter of last night’s game. Following the...

Calvin Johnson breaks Jerry Rice’s NFL single season receiving yards record

Calvin Johnson broke Jerry Rice’s NFL record of 1,848 yards receiving in a season on Saturday against the Atlanta Falcons. Needing only 182 yards coming into the game, Johnson caught 10 passes for 204 yards. Megatron, with 1,892 receiving yards on the season, needs 108 yards against the Bears to reach the 2,000 mark.Johnson said his teammates were telling him how many yards he...

Lions RB Joique Bell takes out coach on sideline

Its been one of those years for the Detroit Lions. Lions running back Joique Bell destroyed their defensive coordinator, Gunther Cunningham, on the sideline during Sunday’s game against the Falcons.  This isn’t the first time a Lions player has taken out a coach on the sidelines this season.

Falcons-Lions Open Thread

After getting a decisive statement victory over the Giants last Sunday, a very Atlanta response would be dropping the follow-up against the Lions, if for no other reason than to give all the pundits. who just started to grudgingly give the Falcons credit, a reason to doubt them anew. The Falcons clinch home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs with a win tonight. Knowing how the media...

Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions: Week 16 NFL Pick

Atlanta Falcons (12-2) Detroit Lions (4-10) Normally I like going against huge line movements because I hate week to week overreactions. This line was Atlanta -1 last week and now it’s at -4.5, skipping over two key numbers of 3 and 4. At first glance, this appears warranted. The Lions got blown out by the crappy Cardinals in Arizona, losing 38-10, while the Falcons got a huge...

Atlanta Falcons-Detroit Lions Week 16 injury report
