Mitch Berger enjoyed a successful NFL career as a special teams standout, spending a majority of his 15-year career as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, serving as not only the punter but handling kickoff duties as well. He enjoyed a semblance of notoriety — insofar as a special teams player can achieve notoriety — for his penchant for routinely chowing down on Snickers bars after returning to the sidelines once he performed his punting or kicking duties. Despite only being a lowly punter-kicker hybrid, Berger did nevertheless profit from the comparably high salaries and earning capacity enjoyed by any longtime NFL player as they relate to the general population of wage-earners. Berger evidently is enjoying success in his post-NFL life — or hasn’t squandered the money he made like so many others — as along with the fact that he is single, he also a member of the appropriate income bracket to be deemed worthy of appearing on the Bravo reality show, Millionaire Matchmakers. Luckily, this show isn’t among the reality series my better half chooses to watch — although I feel the need to point out that I have had far more than my fill of Say Yes to the Dress and Love It Or List It (sheesh) — so I am personally and fortunately unfamiliar with the program, but the name of the show pretty much explains the gist of what occurs on a typical episode. On Tuesday evening, Mitch Berger’s appearance on the show will air at 10:00 pm CST. A preview of his chance as a millionaire to have a millionaire matchmaker match him up with a millionaire-seeker follows. Fascinating, although one would suspect simply being a former NFL player would give Berger the “leg-up” on securing the affections of an attractive and compatible gold digger, er mate. And isn’t it nice to see that John Salley, the former NBA star and one-time panelist on The Best Damn Sports Show Period, continues to score regular work on the reality show circuit? Good for him.
