Former NFL MVP and All Pro running back has always marched to the beat of his own drum.  Alexander is four years removed from last NFL game and instead of sitting somewhere as a 31-year-old running back awaiting free agency, Alexander is in Hollywood on a movie set living his new dream. Yahoo Sports is reporting that Alexander who is financially straight, is now chasing his dreams and trying to be a Hollywood screenwriter. The man who was once the league’s best running back wants to work in movies now. He has been thinking this for several months, ever since someone he knows suggested that he write films. The idea seemed a good one. He liked writing, he liked movies, so he signed up for the NFL Pro Hollywood Boot Camp, a weeklong primer on the film industry. And on the third day, after helping to produce a short movie called “H2O” about the fight for a bottle of water in a Mad Max-like wasteland, he seemed impressed with what he had done. “I know I’m going to write two movies in my life, for sure,” he said. If you are unfamiliar with Shaun Alexander then you could be shocked by his actions.  Even as far back as his years at Alabama, Alexander did things his way, and went on to become the Tides all time leading rusher. Alexander signed up for the NFL Pro Hollywood Boot Camp, a week-long introduction on the film industry.  On the third day, after helping to produce a short movie called “H2O” about the fight for a bottle of water in a Mad Max-like wasteland, Alexander knew he had stumbled upon a new calling. “I know I’m going to write two movies in my life, for sure,” he said. Alexander is extremely confident in his ability to become a screenwriter. “To me it’s like when you play football in junior high school,” Alexander said. “Is it a passing interest or do you want to do it forever? I mean this wasn’t a $30 million film, it was just a short but I wanted to give it my all. And I really do like this.” Alexander who lives outside of Washington D.C. with his wife and six children says he’s found his new calling.
