Former Patriots RB Fred Taylor has decided to retire. That’s no surprise. But you got to appreciate the classy way that it’s happening. The 35-year-old former Pro Bowler, who played the last two seasons for the Patriots, will sign a one-day contract with the Jaguars and officially retire with the team who drafted him as the ninth overall pick in 1998. Taylor is an icon in Jacksonville. That’s all according to Tania Ganguli, who covers the Jags for the Florida Times-Union. Taylor retires with 11,695 rushing yards on 2,534 rushes with 66 TDs and seven 1,000-yard seasons. With the Pats, during an injury-riddled two seasons, he gained 424 yards and four TDs. It wasn’t what the Patriots had hoped, but no doubt, he influenced a few youngsters before he left. (more…)
