Eagles Central:
Former Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive tackle Jon Runyan is now a member of the United States House of Representatives.
A Republican, Runyan won the seat against John Adler for New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district. Runyan captured 50 percent of the vote, compared to Adler’s 47 percent.
Runyan announced his decision to run for a congressional bid in November of 2009. He won the Republican nomination in June of 2010, and is now one of 435 members of the United States House of Representatives.
Runyan spent 14 seasons in the National Football League, nine of those as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
He earned a reputation as one of the best–and toughest–offensive linemen in the game, playing in 208 consecutive regular season and postseason games, an all-time record for an offensive lineman.
