In a rainy, sloppy Thursday night game, the New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets 13-10 in a defensive juggernaut. Stephen Hill’s fumble was one of four turnovers for the New York Jets Geno Smith and the Jets had the ball twice late  in the fourth quarter with a chance to go tie the Patriots with a field goal, or score a touchdown and snap the Patriots five game winning streak over the Jets. Unfortunately, Smith threw an interception on both of those drives that ended up sealing the Jets fate and extending the streak to six straight wins. Geno Smith handled the spotlight pretty well for a rookie quarterback, but the story of the game for the Jets was dropped passes, missed opportunities and turnovers. Geno Smith managed the game for the first three quarters giving the Jets a chance to win the game. Throughout the game the Jets wide receivers dropped numerous passes that could of extended drives. Stephen Hill fumbled a ball during a Jets drive and also struggled catching the football. In the fourth quarter, Smith missed many throws, under throwing receivers as well throwing behind receivers. He tossed up three interceptions in the fourth quarter, one in the red zone, the other two on the last two drives. The Jets youth and inexperience definitely showed. Geno Smith struggled in the pocket, holding onto the ball too long resulting in four sacks. With that being said, Smith’s receivers didn’t help much. Clyde Gates dropped a touchdown pass that could of swung momentum in the Jets favor and Stephen Hills fumble early in the first quarter was a back breaker. The Jets defense was stout holding the Patriots to 52 yards rushing and only allowed 178 yards passing to Tom Brady. In the end the Jets just didn’t have enough offensively to win the game. Despite three interceptions Smith hung in the pocket and delivered some passes with pressure in his face. Smith ended the game 15 of 35 for 214 yards. First round pick Dee Milliner was benched by Rex Ryan in the second half due to his struggles. The Jets will take on the Buffalo Bills next week in a battle between the first two quarterbacks drafted this year. Other Notes: D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Willie Colon were ejected from the game late in the fourth quarter after Nick Mangold dove at Aqib Talib’s knees out of bounds, resulting in punches being thrown. Fines are expected to be handed down to the Jets offensive linemen. Mark Sanchez will most likely have season-ending surgery on his torn labrum in his shoulder. Sanchez career with the Jets is most likely over. Muhammad Wilkerson left the game with a high ankle sprain but doesn’t seem to be that serious.
