Free agent kicker Neil Rackers has signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins. Rackers, contacted by phone by FoxSportsHouston.com, said he could not wait any longer for a deal from the Texans. "We've spent two years in Houston and had promises for a year and a half of contract extensions," Rackers said. "(The Redskins) came to us with a one-year minimum offer. We just feel like there's no possibility of advancement with Houston. We've done our job over those two years and we feel like Washington has more opportunity for us out there." Rackers visited with the Redskins earlier this week and decided to take the Redskins offer after meeting with their management team. "I enjoyed my visit with (special teams coach) Danny Smith and coach Shanahan and I'm excited about the opportunity," said the veteran kicker. Rackers spent the past two seasons with the Texans, converting 90 percent of his field goal attempts in 2010 and 84 percent in 2011. Rackers signed a two-year, 4.1 million deal with the Texans in 2010. He has spent 12 years in the NFL, starting his career with the Bengals in 2000, moving to the Cardinals in 2003 and most recently playing with the Texans. As late as Tuesday afternoon Texans General Manager Rick Smith indicated the club was still trying to retain Rackers.
