Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said Thursday he will know after running a 100-yard dash at full speed Friday if he is healthy enough to play Sunday against the New York Giants.
Michael Vick has made a habit of late of using his Thursday press conferences as a forum to declare himself ready or not to start the past two weeks.
Last Thursday the 33-year old declared himself out against the Dallas Cowboys while sharing the podium with Nick Foles who made the start but proceeded to suffer a concussion late in the third quarter.
Today, Vick didn't quite take that leap.
"I'm going to give myself one more day to see how it feels," Vick explained Thursday after practice at the Novacare Complex. "Tomorrow's the run day for us so we'll see what happens then."
Fridays are typically a walk through practice for the Eagles but earlier in the week Vick revealed that he plans on testing his pulled left hamstring at full speed for the first time since the injury on Friday. Thursday he elaborated on what exactly that test will consist of.
"I'm gonna get out here and run," Vick said. "Tomorrow isn't a walk through day for me, I'm going to just get out here and run and see how it reacts.. As of right now, I don't know how it will play out but I'll go out there and run 100 yards as fast as I can and then I'll try to cut, make some sudden movement and just see what happens."
Against the Giants Vick struggled in the pocket in week five failing to record a first-quarter completion but hurt New York using his legs as a weapon, rushing for 79 yards before departing in the second quarter.
"I don't know [if I'll be able to do that again," he said. "I couldn't tell you and won't be able to tell you until I have the chance to get out there and move around. I'll know for sure tomorrow. I'm going to try and get myself some treatment today so I'm ready to go tomorrow.
While all week the assumption has been that the Eagles will play Vick Sunday against the Giants it seems as if Vick's availability hinges on how he reacts to Friday's hundred-yard dash.
The biggest question becomes, what happens if the 12-year veteran doesn't feel 100 percent afterwards?
"I don't know," Vick said. "I'll let coach Kelly make that decision."
With Foles still having yet to undergo his imPACT test in accordance with the league's concussion protocol, if Vick is unable to go it would be Matt Barkley making his first NFL start Sunday.

I’m right back on the Vick bandwagon after two weeks off. The hope is that his hamstring allows him to be an effective runner, both in terms of the bonus fantasy points that yields but regarding the impact it has on his the offense as a whole.
