NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- All four players punished in the NFL's bounty investigation have filed appeals with the league. People familiar with the situation say the players have asked Commissioner Roger Goodell to remove himself as arbitrator because they do not believe he can be impartial. One of the people also says New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma expects to play at Tampa Bay on Oct. 21 while his appeal is pending. The people spoke to The Associated Press Friday on condition of anonymity because the appeals were filed as private documents with the league Vilma is suspended for the season, while Saints defensive end Will Smith is suspended four games, free agent defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove seven games and Cleveland linebacker Scott Fujita one game.

Browns' Weeden cites ego for INTs

After throwing nine interceptions in his first five games, Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden says his ego has been a problem. Weeden knows he needs to be smarter with the football if the Browns (0-5) are going to snap their 11-game losing streak dating to last season. Weeden has thrown costly interceptions in Cleveland's past two games. Last Sunday, he threw a pick on...

Browns activate rookie WR Cooper

Thin at wide receiver because of injuries, the Browns have signed rookie Josh Cooper from the practice squad. Cooper, who was college teammates with Cleveland quarterback Brandon Weeden, is expected to play Sunday when the winless Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals. Cooper caught 71 passes last season at Oklahoma State as Weeden's top target after Justin Blackmon. The Browns...

Browns Injury Report: Mohamed Massaquoi, D’Qwell Jackson, Travis Benjamin

Several key Cleveland Browns players missed practice yesterday and figure to be questionable for this weekend’s contest against their division rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. Brees backs players in bounty case

The New Orleans Saints are doing their best to block out the ongoing drama surrounding linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defense end Will Smith. That doesn't mean Drew Brees and the 1-4 Saints aren't thinking about it. Brees said Thursday the reissued suspensions were "a sham." He disagrees with the basis for the punishment handed down to players and coaches for the...

Browns defense struggling as it prepares for Bengals

BEREA -- There almost werent enough questions and topics to cover with Browns defensive coordinator Dick Jauron on Thursday. Rapid fire came the queries, one after the other like the old Batman TV show Bam! Pow! Zowie! Or something like that. Jauron had a lot to cover -- and there hadnt been a lot covered because prior to Thursday there has been so much asked about one third-and...

NFL Picks, 2012 season, Week 6

Sometimes it just takes one. The New Orleans Saints finally got in the win column Sunday night with a victory over the ever-inconsistent San Diego Chargers. The Saints dug themselves a hole early, but at least one Saints blogger gives the team a chance at a mid-season turnaround, noting that outside of Atlanta, the NFC is devoid of dominant teams. Thus Travis Dauro, a contributing...

Idle Chatter: Browns-Bengals

1. Before we get to the matchups and the X's and O's of the deal, let's start with this. With all the drama surrounding the Browns and their current 11-game losing streak, are they capable of winning a game right now? Pat McManamon: The only thing that might prevent them is lack of depth, because the injury situation on the defensive side is significant. That being said...
