The Panthers went 7-9 last season and have gone 4-1 in their last five games. The Panthers have the potential to make the next step in their progression from an annual loser to a playoff contender, but had trouble moving the ball last week against the Seahawks. This week, they come into Ralph Wilson Stadium and even their record at 1-1. Here are some ways the Bills can prevent that from happening.
On defense, Buffalo needs to first stop the Carolina running game. DeAngelo Williams is the primary running back for the Panthers because Jonathan Stewart is injured, and continues to be effective in his eighth season. Over the past two seasons, Williams has averaged 4.79 yards per attempt. The table below breaks down Williams’ rushes by direction.
Clearly, Williams is most effective when running on the outside. In order to prevent that, the Bills’ outside rushers need to work to seal the edge on rushes in their direction and force him back to the middle. If the Bills can co...

Cam Newton vs. Buffalo - After a disappointing preseason the Carolina Panthers mustered just seven points in their opener at home last week. It is hard to get behind Mike Shula’s offense and while we’re just one week in, those who paid a high price for Cam Newton on draft day are starting to sweat it a bit. This week their fears will be erased. While the stat line was ugly,...
Chase Blackburn enjoyed the best year of his nine-year career last season with the Giants.
Sunday against Seattle a healthy Blackburn didn’t see a defensive snap.
The Carolina Panthers have one of the best linebacking corps in the NFL in Thomas Davis Luke Kuechly and Jon Beason but the Panthers are hoping to get Blackburn more involved in live-action snaps moving forward.
The Carolina Panthers suffered a devastating 12-7 loss in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks. Not only did the Panthers lose the game but they also lost starting right guard Garry Williams for the season with a torn ACL. Williams' injury led to the Panthers moving Travelle Wharton over to the RG position and recently activated left guard Amini Silatolu will move in to...
Carolina Panthers starting cornerback Josh Thomas is out after sustaining a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit on Buffalo Bills receiver Robert Woods.
The Panthers said Thomas would not return to Sunday's game.
Thomas was hurt early in the second quarter when he burst up the left sideline and led with his helmet in tackling Woods. Thomas lay on the field for a few moments...
Carolina Panthers left guard Amini Silatolu will start against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after missing the opener with a hamstring injury.
Silatolu's returns provides the Panthers a boost after right guard Gary Williams sustained a season-ending left knee injury in a 12-7 loss to Seattle last weekend. Chris Scott started in place of Williams against Buffalo.
For the Bills...

When the Panthers and Bills play Sunday we'll get a chance to see two young dynamic QB's. It's not often that Cam is the veteran QB in a game.
After going 13-3 week 1, I've started out 1-0 with the Patriot sneaking past the Jets.
We'll continue to learn more about the league after this weeks game.
Here we go:

Carolina Panthers (0-1) at Buffalo Bills (0-1)
The Panthers were my biggest sleeper coming into the season. In 2012, The Panthers won 6 of their final 9 games to finish 7-9. Among those 6 wins were victories over division winners Washington and Atlanta, as well as a victory in New Orleans against the Saints. Newton was noticeably better in the 2nd half of the season, completing...

The Bills and Panthers will square off in a battle of 0-1 teams on Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Both teams played their opening opponents closely, but neither did enough to win their respective game.
Buffalo and Carolina have faced off five times since the Panthers joined the league in 1995. The Bills hold a 4-1 series lead with their only loss coming in 2005, a 13-9 loss. The...
Welcome to Cadence Call, your weekly game preview where I give you a bootleg breakdown for each team in the AFC East & AFC North divisions.
