The Pittsburgh Steelers completed the draft Saturday with plenty of intriguing late-round picks. Let’s get to know them: 5th Round – Wesley Johnson – OL Vanderbilt Johnson will need some polishing but has the size and strength necessary to play at the NFL level DRAFT PROFILE Johnson was a constant at Vanderbilt starting a school-record 51 games—so game-time experience is not an issue for him (at the collegiate level, of course). Under (now Penn State) coach James Franklin, was first-team All-SEC in 2013. With all those big-SEC boys blocking for their backfields, that’s quite the honor. Johnson’s versatility is a major plus-side. He’s started games at tackle, guard and center during his college career. (In the inexact science of predicting draft picks, kudos to our Joseph Bruno for correctly guessing the Steelers would pick Johnson) Round 6 – Jordan Zumwalt – ILB UCLA Zumwalt looks to bring solidity to the Steelers special teams unit, as well as spot-plays in the linebacking corps DRAFT PROFILE Zumwalt played all over the field for the Bruins, playing a little strong, outside linebacker in addition to his natural position inside. According to scouts, he is a solid tackler and can drop back into pass-coverage very well. Zumwalt’s defensive coordinator at UCLA, Lou Spanos, used to be a Steelers defensive assistant, making the transition to the Steelers perhaps easier for Zumwalt.   6th Round – Daniel McCullers – DT Tennessee McCullers looks to fight for a spot on the Steelers d-line DRAFT PROFILE Adding more to the Steelers defensive line depth, McCullers recorded 33 tackles, .5 sacks and 4.5 tackles-for-loss in 2013 with the Volunteers. McCullers could be utilized on special teams as he blocked two kicks in 22 games during his college career. 7th Round – Rob Blanchflower – TE UMass Blanchflower looks to complement Miller at tight end DRAFT PROFILE Blanchflower holds the UMass record for career receiving yards with 1,164. Blanchflower started all four years at UMass being a team captain for two of them. (Kudos again to Joseph Bruno for correctly guessing this pick as well) You may also be interested in:Getting to know the Pittsburgh Steelers’ late-round draft picksPittsburgh Steelers earn one of the top draft grades in the AFCNational Rewind: Did the Pittsburgh Steelers draft any of the 10 biggest gems or busts?
