When New York Giants defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was diagnosed with a blood clot in his left calf, it seemed certain that his season -and quite possibly his career- was over. At the time, head coach Tom Coughlin even said that he was likely lost for the year. However, the Giants surprisingly never placed him on Injured Reserve (IR) and on Tuesday, Rogers re-appeared at camp and was riding the stationary bike like nothing had ever happened.

"Well, there's a ray of hope, that's all. So we're just gonna hang in there as long as we can, see if they can determine where he is and how fast he would be able to play," Coughlin said after practice. "Nothing changed. He went and had another opinion. [It was] a little more positive, would be the way to say it, which we're happy about."

There's still no telling when Rogers would return if he can eventually return, but given the amount of injuries at the defensive tackle position, having the 12-year veteran back on the field would be a huge boost for the team. It would also offer a mental boost for the defense, who quickly grew to respect and appreciate their new teammate after he lost over 50 pounds prior to training camp.

With Chris Canty still on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list with a knee injury and Marvin Austin hampered by a lingering back issue, Big Blue currently has to rely on Linval Joseph and Rocky Bernard as their starters, and rookie Markus Kuhn, Dwayne Hendricks and newly signed Marcus Thomas as their depth.
