Neil Rackers, the Washington Redskins’ veteran kicker, was cut yesterday, which opened up the door for Graham Gano, a fourth-year player who has never had a starting kicking job in the NFL. Gano hasn’t attempted a field goal all preseason, but it’s good enough for him to win the starting job because Rackers went 1-for-2 on field goals this preseason.
However, Washington cut Gano a day after winning the starting job and brought in former Baltimore Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff to be their starting kicker. Cundiff was the man who missed the last second, game-tying 32-yarder against the Patriots in last year’s AFC title game.
