The Green Bay Packers are a team that builds their roster primarily through the draft. And when I say primarily, I mean entirely. In fact, no team in the NFL has more homegrown players on their roster than the Packers.Ted Thompson is known as one of the better drafting GMs in the league today. However, much or most of his success has come from the second round and on, while the first round hasn't been all that kind to him. Outside of Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and maybe even Bryan Bulaga, the rest of his first rounders haven't exactly been stellar.Green Bay is a team that can be a perennial Super Bowl contender, and while the book is still out on the likes of Nick Perry, Datone Jones and Derek Sherrod, they can't really afford to "miss" on any more first round picks. So here's a look at who they should look to select with the 21st pick in the 2014 draft:

Packers: Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick Enough at Tight End?

The Green Bay Packers came into the offseason with 17 free agents and a few positions of need that absolutely had to be addressed. One of those positions was at tight end due to the fact that the top two tight ends on the roster — Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless were both free agents. Finley, who has been the Packers starting tight end since the 2009 season, is still out...

Cory’s Corner: Solidify backup QB job and sign Matt Flynn

Last year proved just how important a backup quarterback is not for just the Packers but for any football team. Having a bona fide star quarterback is an advantage that coach Mike McCarthy may have gotten a little too comfortable with. He got used to the 50-yard rollout passes on a dime and being able to whistle a fastball into tight windows. Matt Flynn finished with a 2-2 starting...

Packers prefer compensatory picks over unrestricted free agents

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson has a formula for building his team, and he’s sticking with it. Thompson believes in building through the draft, not free agency, and that includes acquiring more draft picks by declining to sign unrestricted free agents. In the NFL, teams that lose more in free agency than they acquire get compensatory picks, and the Packers’ moves in free...

UT-Martin WR Jeremy Butler to have Pre-Draft visit with Green Bay

After solid Pro Days at UT-Martin and Vanderbilt, WR Jeremy Butler has earned a private workout with the Green Bay Packers this weekend. JC Tretter to get first stab at Packers' center job

Any time the Green Bay Packers have allowed one of their free agents leave, they've felt they had someone waiting in the wings to take his place. They let Cullen Jenkins go because they had Mike Neal. They let Greg Jennings go because they had Randall Cobb. They let James Jones go because they have Jarrett Boykin. The times they haven't had a replacement, they've...

Tolzien’s Edge: The Downfield Throw

The competition for the backup quarterback spot this offseason has not yet been determined for the Packers. What is known is that Scott Tolzien will be in the mix after putting up some numbers in 2013 that not even Aaron Rodgers could match.

After strong free agency, what’s next for Chicago Bears?

Despite having signed only one offensive player (WR Domenik Hixon) out of the ten incoming free agents thus far, don’t expect the defensive focus to change much for the Chicago Bears as the 2014 NFL Draft approaches. Following a record-setting season with an offense unlike any the franchise has ever seen, finishing second in the NFL in total points and breaking the team record...

Brett Favre’s Return To Packers: Are Fans Ready?

This is how most Packers fans prefer to remember Brett Favre It only took me 18 months before I broke down and wrote about Brett Favre.  I joined Jersey Al’s team in August of 2012 and until recently, it was pretty easy to avoid the topic altogether. Over the past year, however, Favre’s name has been tied more closely with the Green Bay Packers and a return to Titletown is not...
