Pass The Pill:
Greg Hardy thinks he can beat LeBron James in hoops In a brief interview with Jonathan Jones from the Charlotte Observer, Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy had some comical statements regarding his basketball talents and what he could do with them 1-on-1 against the best player in the NBA, LeBron James. Jones asked, “If you went 1-on-1 with LeBron, who would win?” Hardy answered in tremendous fashion, “How should I answer this question? …I would dominate that dude. Hands down, guaranteed win. And that’s my favorite player.” Bold statements from a football player whose sole year playing collegiate basketball at Ole Miss ended with averages of 6.7 minutes-per-game, 0.9 points per game and 27.7 FG%. Hardy’s measureables now, and even back then when he may have played at a slimmer weight for the basketball team, are around 6’4 and between 260 and 280 pounds. In a sense, his measurements compare with that of Charles Barkley, a bruising, undersized, but relentless forward who received the nickname “The Round Mound of Rebound” during his tenure at Auburn. However, their basketball talents and statistics are not comparable. Yet Hardy thinks he could beat LeBron James 1-on-1 due to his sneaky hops in this video and “the idea that they share a lot of the same tools.” The short, but undeniably entertaining interview once again broaches the subject of athletes switching sports or pursuing the sport they passed on for another one. Hardy is an excellent physical specimen and a great defensive end in the NFL for the Panthers, but LeBron James is in an entirely different galaxy in terms of athletic ability and basketball abilities. In James’ first year out of high school, he averaged 19.1 points-per-game, 5.4 assists-per-game and 5.1 rebounds-per-game against some of the best athletes the world has to offer. Hardy could barely get on the court for Ole Miss his first season of basketball after high school. The sentiment that he could beat LeBron James 1-on-1 is fascinating. It is also completely wrong. I don’t even think Hardy would score once. He shouldn’t feel bad too though, a lot of great players and athletes wouldn’t score on LeBron James. Especially if they publicly stated they could beat him. The post Greg Hardy Foolishly Thinks He Can Beat LeBron James in a Game of 1-on-1 Basketball appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.
