With the offense in shambles last season, the New York Jets looked to improve their team as much as possible in the offseason. With Dustin Keller now in Miami, there was a gaping hole at tight end. Kellen Winslow, once considered a perennial Pro Bowler, will look to revive his career in New York. Back in 2007, Winslow made his lone Pro Bowl, but things have not gone exactly as planned for him since. He went to Tampa Bay for three seasons after his stint in Cleveland, and just last season he appeared on two rosters while appearing in just one game. There were questions that he might not even find a job heading into 2013, but the Jets came calling. He has lucked into a perfect situation, only having to beat out Jeff Cumberland for the starting job. As bad as Mark Sanchez was from a number’s perspective, the Jets have done a solid job throwing the ball to Keller the last few seasons. How much was it the system, and how much was it the player? Time will tell, but Winslow is just as good of an athlete and when focused, he can be a dependable receiver from the tight end position. It might seem weird to label a guy who just turned 30 years old to be a breakout star, but as Tony Gonzalez has proved, you can be a dependable tight end well into your 30s. Winslow now has the perfect time to turn around his career, and at this stage, he appears to be much more mature and focused. Take note for your fantasy football team and expect him to become one of the team’s go-to pass catchers in 2013. Image: NY Times
