New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks took his share of criticism for not showing up for voluntary workouts with the team. Most readily assumed it was over his contract situation, but Nicks wants to set the record straight and clear the air regarding his mindset at the time, insisting that his absence for most of the offseason "wasn't contract-related."
"At the end of the day, there's stuff that's mandatory and there's things that are not mandatory," Nicks told Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. "Football is a physical sport, and it's a long season, too. Anytime you can let your body rest, I feel like that's always a blessing."
Nicks has received his fair share of nicks (pun intended) during his NFL career, so he should probably get a pass, and afterall, he did show up for mandatory minicamp.
