This past season was a great display of the potential dynamism of option concepts in the NFL.  Now, the Seattle Seahawks have made a trade for one of the most dynamic players in the game, and who will be a great fit as their offense evolves.  Seattle was often lumped in with San Francisco and Washington when the pistol formation and the option were discussed among NFL talking heads, and while that’s fair to an extent, the Seahawks offense is much more hybrid than its NFC rivals (and more likely closer to the blueprint we’ll see as the use of the option evolves in the NFL, but that’s another post for another day).  Adding a player with Percy Harvin’s skill set is a great step in the right direction. As I mentioned, Seattle’s offense this past season did utilize some option concepts, but it wasn’t anywhere close to San Francisco or Washington in terms of chapter and verse spread option.  The 49ers took Colin Kaepernick’s abilities and history with Chris Ault’s pistol concepts, and grafted that onto their existing offense, which was already less pro style and more spread-y than most think.  The Redskins took RGIII’s natural athleticism and ran [...]
