When team’s talk about a quarterback competition, they talk about comparing the guys competing in similar situations. The Browns couldn’t have asked for a better situation than the one fate handed them. After one of their quarterbacks went down with injury, they had the luxury of watching Brian Hoyer go in and play the same number of games as the guy who hurt his thumb. Hoyer was able to excel to a level the Browns and their fans haven’t seen in a while. Do people realize how good of a quarterback Hoyer really is? I doubt it, they just know he brought the Browns 2 wins in a row after the team started their season with 2 losses. There are still people arguing that the guy with the sore thumb could have performed better had Josh Gordon not been serving a 2 game suspension due to his problems with the NFL substance abuse policy. When you sit down and analyze the numbers, you can see it wouldn’t have mattered whether the guy with the sore thumb had Gordon or not. The guy with the sore t...

In his second series of Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Brian Hoyer was injured on a first down scramble. Hoyer was beginning a slide close to the Browns’ sideline when he was hit high from a Bills defender. His legs bent awkwardly beneath him. Initially, it appeared that Hoyer could have been the victim of a helmet to helmet hit, but replays did...

QB Brian Hoyer screwing up Cleveland Browns draft plans?

The Browns were dead in the water, simply blowing up the season just three weeks in. Well, since trading Richardson, the Browns haven’t lost. At the same time they traded Richardson...

Is Brian Hoyer screwing up Cleveland's 2014 Draft plans?

AP Photo A few weeks ago, Cleveland fans stock-piled their supply of brown bags as the Browns shipped off their star running back Trent Richardson to Indy.  It is believed that the franchise was throwing in the towel and preparing for a high draft pick in 2014.  They are in need of a franchise quarterback to build around, and with a lot of potential in passers for next season...

Brian Hoyer named starter against Buffalo for Thursday Night

Today the Cleveland Browns named Brian Hoyer the starting quarterback for Thursday’s Week 5 game against the Bills. Brandon Weeden (thumb) was fully cleared today, but there’s no way the Browns can turn back to him now. In two starts, Hoyer has gone 55-of-92 (59.7 percent) for 590 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. […]

Browns sticking with Hoyer at quarterback

Browns coach Rob Chudzinski ended any mystery about his quarterback situation by saying that Brian Hoyer will start Thursday's game against Buffalo. Hoyer has gone 2-0 since replacing injured starter Brandon Weeden, who sprained his thumb in Week 2. Chudzinski said Monday that Weeden is healthy and been cleared to play, but he's going to stick with Hoyer, who led the Browns...

5 things to know after Browns thumped Bengals 17-6

After leaving Cleveland's locker room, Brian Hoyer stopped and signed autographs for some young, starry-eyed Browns fans. He posed for a picture with a stadium employee. Hoyer soon found his wife, Lauren, who is due with the couple's second child in a few weeks. As Cleveland's quarterback headed toward his waiting car, there wasn't much outward emotion, nothing...

Browns QB Brian Hoyer leaves game, Brandon Weeden in and booed

Getty Images Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer was forced from Thursday’s game against the Bills with a right knee injury, and is questionable to return. He got laid out by Bills LB Kiko Alonso, getting both his...

Browns To Start Brian Hoyer Again In Week 5

This probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise now that Brian Hoyer has led the Browns to back-to-back wins since taking over the starting job, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Cleveland will keep Hoyer in place as their start for Week 5. Former first-round pick Brandon Weeden has missed the past two games with a sprained thumb and appears to be healed enough to possibly...

Week 5 Waiver Wire - Add, Watch or Avoid

QB Add - Brian Hoyer – In two games he has almost 600 yards and 5 TD’s and faces the Bills this week who sport an injured secondary. Ride him for the next 3 weeks because after the Bills he gets potential shootouts with Detroit and Green Bay. Then…. Sell high because he then faces KC and Baltimore before his bye. Avoid - Ryan Fitzpatrick – The Good - Fitzpatrick has good...

Best of the Rest

Best of the rest heading into week 5 include: Brian Hoyer, QB, Cleveland Browns – Hoyer took over in week 3, and since than he has been successful with his weapons of Jordan Cameron and Josh Gordon. In week 4 against a good Cincinnati defense, Hoyer passed for 269 yards and 2 TD’s. Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis Colts – Fleener had a breakout game in week 2 vs. Miami and had...

Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns: 2013 Week 5 NFL Pick

Buffalo Bills (2-2) at Cleveland Browns (2-2) The Browns have somehow vaulted to the top of the AFC North two weeks after losing Brandon Weeden to injury and trading Trent Richardson to the Colts. While it’s not a surprise that they wouldn’t miss Brandon Weeden that much, I don’t think anyone was expecting Brian Hoyer to play well enough to mask the loss of Trent Richardson...

Kelly’s Start & Sit: Week 5

So, I clearly underestimated Arian Foster last week. I gave him his respect in “Players That Will Bounce Back,” but I advised to sit him against the Seattle Seahawks last week. That obviously was the wrong choice. Foster rushed for 102 yards against Seattle and he received 27 carries to Ben Tate’s seven. Obviously, a good sign for Foster fantasy owners. Aside from the Foster...
