With veteran wide receiver Santonio Holmes hamstrung the Jets desperately need Stephen Hill to make a quick recovery from last Sunday’s concussion. And with the wideout headache-free and making a return to the practice field on Friday — albeit wearing a red no-contact jersey — they might just get their wish. “I’m feeling good. I’m just ready to play’’ said Hill who suffered the concussion on a hit last Sunday against the Titans. He still hasn’t been officially cleared to play Monday night in Atlanta but he’s hopeful. “I’m not going to say that I’ve been cleared to play but I am ready to play anytime they give me a heads-up.’’ Hill suffered the concussion on a hit to the chin by Tennessee’s Michael Griffin that earned the Titans safety a $21000 fine from the NFL. “I just knew it was a pretty bad hit” Hill said. “It did have me stunned a little bit. But as I tried to get up I just felt [dizzy]. The training staff was around me by that time. They told me to go to the loc

Santonio Holmes: 'I can’t throw it to myself and catch it'

Whenever Santonio Holmes meets with the media, there's a good chance his soundbite will become a major headline. Thursday proved to be no exception. In his first interaction with reporters since last Sunday's stinker of a game against the Titans -- one catch for 25 yards -- the Jets' mercurial receiver failed to take any blame. “I can’t throw it to myself and...

Jets’ Stephen Hill cleared for contact

Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill has been cleared for contact after suffering a concussion last week against the Titans. Jets say WR Stephen Hill (concussion-probable) has been cleared for contact. — Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) October 5, 2013 Hill is listed as probable on the Jets injury report.  It looks like he’ll be ready for Monday night’s game against the Falcons.   Need...

Preview: Jets (2-2) vs. Falcons (1-3)

The Jets are coming off their worst game of the season. At 2-2 they'll be traveling to Atlanta trying to avoid falling below .500 for the first time this season. They'll likely have to do it without star receiver Santonio Holmes. Holmes and second-year receiver Stephen Hill were hurt in the game last week against the Titans, but Hill might be able to make it back for the...

Santonio Holmes: ”I Can’t Throw The Ball To Myself And Catch It”

You want to know what’s better than a diva wide receiver explaining why he didn’t have any catches? An injured wide receiver explaining why he only had one catch. Two weeks after Hakeem Nicks told the media he can’t throw the ball to himself, following a blowout loss to the Panthers, injured Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes just did the same thing. Holmes was asked about...

Jets WR Hill returns to practice on limited basis

Stephen Hill knew something was wrong as soon as he hit the turf. The Jets wide receiver had taken a shot to his chin from Tennessee's Michael Griffin on New York's second offensive play last Sunday and he couldn't get to his feet. ''I just knew it was a pretty bad hit,'' Hill said Friday. ''It did have me stunned a little bit, and as I tried...

Santonio often not worth Jets’ $45M tab

Santonio Holmes comes with a monster price tag and not just the $7.5 million the Jets are paying him this season. Holmes is a blend of playmaker problem child and enigma who sometimes makes you wonder whether the price is worth the payoff. The price comes in the form of comments like the ones Holmes made Thursday when he pointed a finger at quarterback Geno Smith and the rest of...

Jets' Holmes: 'I can't throw it to myself'

Santonio Holmes is hamstrung by another injury - and a lack of chemistry with his starting quarterback. The New York Jets wide receiver is dealing with a strained hamstring that will likely keep him out of at least the team's game at Atlanta on Monday night. That's a setback for the still-developing on-field relationship between him and rookie Geno Smith. Holmes surprisingly...

Santonio Holmes: ‘I Can’t Throw it to Myself’

It wouldn’t be the New York Jets if there weren’t some off the field distractions. For the most part, wide receiver Santonio Holmes is always good for a couple quotes when he meets with the media. His most recent comments are no different. Holmes was questioned for the first time since his dismal performance against the […]

Santonio Holmes: ‘I can’t throw it to myself and catch it, otherwise I would’

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith is under plenty of pressure as a rookie who has been thrust into a starting role. Santonio Holmes could miss several weeks with a hamstring injury, but that didn’t stop him from putting even more pressure on the former West Virginia star earlier this week. Holmes had only one […]

Santonio Holmes Says He ‘Can’t Throw It to Myself and Catch It’ After Just One Reception From Geno Smith in Week 4

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Santonio Holmes is hamstrung by another injury — and a lack of chemistry with his starting quarterback. The New York Jets wide receiver is dealing with a strained hamstring that will likely keep him out of at least the team’s game at Atlanta on Monday night. That’s a setback for the still-developing on-field relationship between him and rookie Geno Smith...

Santonio rips Jets: ‘I can’t throw it to myself’

Santonio Holmes’ hamstring is balky but his tongue was as sharp as always Thursday. Asked to explain a seeming lack of production Sunday with Geno Smith he paraphrased another star receiver — the Giants’ Hakeem Nicks. “I played 49 plays and all I know is that I had one catch. That’s all I can attest for’’ said Holmes who added what could be viewed as a thinly veiled...

David Nelson poised to make immediate impact

Injuries sustained by Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill in this past Sunday’s game, may sideline the team’s top two receivers for Monday night in Atlanta. With both Holmes and Hill uncertain of return for this week’s matchup against the Falcons, the Jets’ front office signed third year receiver, David Nelson.

Holmes does Gisele impression, defends self

BY NICK ST. DENISAfter the New England Patriots' heartbreaking Super Bowl loss two years ago, Tom Brady's supermodel wide, Gisele Bundchen, famously blurted, "My husband cannot [expletive] throw the ball and catch the ball at same time.'"New York Jets receiver Santonio Holmes apparently took some notes and recited them Thursday.“I can’t throw it to myself...

Turn On The Jets Film Room – New York Jets Passing Game, Week 4

Due to some scheduling conflicts, we bumped back this week’s Turn On The Jets passing game breakdown. Instead of beating the dead horse on Geno Smith’s four awful turnovers against the Tennessee Titans, we thought we’d dig up three positive plays the Jets could go back to against the Atlanta Falcons. Let’s get to it… Play 1 – 16 yard completion to Jeremy Kerley The Jets...
