Hines Ward went out with a great press conference today.  One nugget he left with was that he is urging Mike Wallace to remain with the Steelers.  Ward knows from experience and is hoping Wallace stays in the black and gold.

“I told Mike you may get a chance to go other places but there’s not another place like Pittsburgh,”

Wallace is a restricted free agent who has had a slow market so far.  Things could pick up at any time with what players are left on the market.  Wallace is a deep threat like no other.  Wallace wants a mega deal.  He could earn those big dollars on the market.  After seeing the big paychecks of Vincent Jackson and DeSean Jackson he is probably licking his chops.

Ward does not want Wallace to worry about the money though.  He wants him to think about the team.  During the press conference Ward made know that was his only regret while in the Steel City.  He was upset with himself for holding out.  He thought he should not have let the business end of things get in the way of his love for the Steelers.  He hopes Wallace understands that and sticks with the place that loves him the way he loves the game.

Ward was one of the best Steelers of all time.  There is no question about that.  For him to look back on his hold out as his only regret turns me more towards Hines’ way.  He saw the one thing that could lay dire on his legacy and cleaned it up on his way out.  For him to notice that and be upset about it is a real tell on how he feels about this organization and this team.

It is not always about the business but it is always about the love for the game.
