Detroit fans received an early gift on Christmas Eve with the Lions making the playoffs for the first time in this century, since 1999 to be exact. 12 years is a long damn time. In NFL years, it's eons. 1999 might just as well be 1899.
Things have changed for this franchise. Which means my attitude should as well.
Something all Lions fans are guilty of is dwelling on past failures instead of focusing on today. I'm definitely guilty. I need to remember correlation does not equal causation. Mistakes made years ago should not reflect where the franchise is today. Just because the Lions did A in 2000 (or 1990...1980...and so on) doesn't mean B is destined to happen tomorrow.
Matt Millen? He's long gone. Russ Thomas is just a memory, nothing more. It's all in the past. I'd rather look forward than back...though I'm sure I'll find myself slipping at times. I'm a Lions fan, for better or worse...and I think things are getting much, much better.
