My Sports Rumors:
There’s still a lot of uncertainty about whether or not New York Jets receiver Santonio Holmes will be ready for the teams opener. Jets head coach Rex Ryan says he’s optimistic that Holmes will be on the field. Holmes on the other hand is still non-committal saying he’s a “long ways” from being 100 percent healthy.
“That’s coach’s decision. Doctors still have to continue to evaluate me,” Holmes said about the opener. “It’s been a long process. I’ve come a long way up to this point and can’t put any timetable on it.
“Just because of my progress of doing something to your guys’ attention, [it] doesn’t really boost the trainer’s push for me to be on the field right away.”(ESPN New York)
What’s interesting is how Holmes totally contradicts himself there by saying it’s the coaches decision but then saying it’s on the trainer to clear him. He then follows that all up by saying, “I have a long career ahead of me. I’m going to take the best risk and the best chances f

Will Geno Smith get the opening-game started for the New York Jets?
Multiple media reports are quoting sources saying that Mark Sanchez will not be ready to return to action in time for the Sept. 8 opening game against Tampa Bay, giving rookie Smith the nod in what has already been a tight competition for the starting slot.
He was held out of Thursday night's game against the...
With most of the starters getting the night off, including quarterbacks Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez, the Jets won the "Back-up Bowl," 27-20, on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.A rough first series aside, quarterback Matt Simms did a lot to improve his roster stock against the Eagles' back-ups, going 33-44 with 285 yards, the most by...
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is likely to miss the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8. The fifth-year pro out of USC is suffering from a deep shoulder bruise picked in the fourth quarter of the preseason game versus in state rival New York Giants.
Ian Rapport reports that although the Jets still have Sanchez at day-to-day there is worry within...
Joe Namath is the only link the New York Jets have to any form of championship or Super Bowl conversation.
Namath and the Jets aren’t on the best of terms, and the New York legend doesn’t have a rhyme or reason for it. During an appearance on the Rich Eisen podcast, Namath said his “relationship with the Jets is clumsy and awkward right now.”
“Clumsy, awkward. Expressing...
With New York Jets' quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy hobbled by injuries, second year gunslinger Matt Simms has made a strong case this preseason to be the team's backup quarterback to start the 2013 regular season.
This letter was written to Rex Ryan from Valentina, a stripper from Rick’s Cabaret and the ‘dancer’ makes some valid points about the Jets QB situation. See the letter below and H/T to FoxSports for the scoop:
Dear Rex, Can you please give Geno Smith another chance? I know he messed up by throwing three INTs against the Giants, and yes, it was really bad when he stepped out...

— JOE MCKNIGHT (@Joejetlife) August 30, 2013
McKnight just recently tweeted this out. We’re still waiting confirmation that the Packers are in fact signing him to a contract.
McKnight, 25, was released by the Jets earlier this week. It appears as though the Packers are looking for a replacement for DuJuan Harris who was lost for the season...
The New York Jets quarterback controversy took another turn as the team signed Graham Harrell. Harrell was released by the Packers after losing out on the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. He was 23 for 42 with 169 yards and an interception in three preseason games for Green Bay.
With Mark Sanchez’s health in question and uncertainty around Geno Smith, the addition of Harrell makes...
Geno Smith stayed on the sideline. So did Mark Sanchez.
While the New York Jets' quarterback competition is far from settled, Matt Simms certainly showed he might deserve to stick around when the season starts.
Simms, competing for the No. 3 job, led four scoring drives, and Kahlil Bell ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns as the Jets topped the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20 on...
The New York Jets have agreed to terms with former Packers backup Graham Harrell as first reported by Fox Sports. Harrell spent 3 years as Aaron Rodgers’ backup before being pushed to the side for Vince Young this preseason.
It remains to be seen if the Jets actually have a plan for Harrell, well let’s be honest when do the Jets have a plan? Or if this is just a depth signing...
Last night Matt Falkenbury from DailyStache.net and the Jets Press Coverage Podcast with John Presser, stopped by to talk mostly New York Jets football and at the end of the show, Breaking Bad. We had technical difficulties for the first 20 seconds or so. So if you don’t hear anything at the beginning, don’t worry. Baggy Dizzle and Manny helped Earl co-pilot the show, along...
