Fox Sports Southwest:
Houston's not a member of the Big 12, but the Cougars are getting back in the habit of playing teams who are.
Texas Tech and Houston will play four games from 2017 to 2022, beginning with a date in Houston on Sept. 16, 2017. Both games in Houston will be played in the Cougars' new on-campus stadium and not in Reliant Stadium, home of the NFL's Houston Texans.
The Red Raiders will host Houston at Jones AT&T Stadium for both games in Lubbock. The full schedule:
- Sept. 16, 2017 in Houston
- Sept. 15, 2018 in Lubbock
- Sept. 18, 2021 in Houston
- Sept. 10, 2022 in Lubbock
The two schools were rivals in the Southwest Conference, and new Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury served as the Cougars' co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2010 and 2011.
Houston also announced a home and home against Kansas for 2019 and 2020, giving the program a Big 12 opponent on the schedule in six consecutive seasons.
"This is another great series for Kansas football," Kansas coach Charlie Weis said in a release. "The state of Texas is an extremely important area for our program in terms of recruiting. In addition, we have a large alumni base in Houston area so being able to play Houston is ideal for both the team and our fans."
Kansas is 3-0 all-time vs. Houston, and beat the Cougars 42-13 in the 2005 Fort Worth Bowl, the last meeting between the two teams.
